Laboratory Quantitative Testing Using gas chromatography
The gold standard for testing the purity of a sample is to carry out testing with gas chromatography. The equipment needed to carry out such tests restricts this process to commercial laboratories. The Exit laboratory operates such equipment (see Fig 16.7) and uses it to calibrate the other easier methods.
Exit has tested samples of Nembutal sourced from China and Mexico using Gas Chromatography. We have seen no evidence of significant adulteration or deterioration, even in samples that have been stored for long periods (some over 15 years). Tests have looked at powdered Nembutal samples from different Chinese sources, and all have delivered purity results >95%. Chinese suppliers who have had samples tested by Exit are listed with an ‘*’ (see Chapter 14)
