Stage #2 Testing a) Determining water content
The presence of water in any significant amount in a sample of Nembutal powder is an adverse finding. The power absorbs water from the air and must always be kept tightly sealed.
To determine water content, accurately weigh out ~1 gm of the powder and place in a laboratory oven with the temperature controlled at 1000
C. After 30 minutes in the oven, let the
powder cool in a desiccator and reweigh to establish the % water content. This should be < 5%. This sample can be reused for the remaining tests.
