SAVE OUR BADGERS
Please read now - after December 7th it will be too late...
If you open the papers today and look at all the stories about Bovine TB and badgers and it would be all too easy to think that we have gone back 20 years - and that’s just about what has happened.
The 11,000 badgers that were killed in the Randomised Badger Culling Trial, it would seem, died for nothing. The government have cherry picked what ‘science’ they want to accept and are now wanting to give licenses to farmers/landowners to either cage trap and shoot or shoot free running badgers on their land. They have to ensure that they have access to at least 150 square kms and then ‘someone’ has to organise this killing spree to ensure that it is all done in an organised manner for the next 4 years.
Farmers are being encouraged to go for the free running shooting option as ‘there are plenty of people who would be prepared to come on their land and help rid them of the badgers just to add another animal to their bag’. I don’t have to tell you how awful this will be and I implore you to write to your M.P. voicing your disgust.
There is a public consultation that DEFRA is running at the moment and we are told that they will take notice of the responses that they receive. They have made it as difficult as possible asking questions; if you

agree with the killing you just have to say yes, but if you say no you have to explain why. The Badger Trust has very kindly given us a leaflet to send out to all of you explaining how they are answering the consultation hoping this will help you if you wish to respond.
I cannot emphasise more how important this is so please, if you are able, reply to the consultation. We are helping with the running of a website

For the culling to go ahead will be too awful to imagine, badgers are not the size or shape to be shot and killed outright. I have seen too many that have survived huge impact from road accidents to know that. Lamping at night will not allow any controls and what dangers for those walking at night – will it take a terrible accident before this madness is stopped?
Thank you so much to all of you who have sent letters of support and those who have written to the ministry. We need to do as much as we can for those that do not have a voice and remember we have science and common sense on our side.
