Secret World across the world!
I was really pleased to receive the following email from Carla who has been in contact with me about two small cubs found when they were only weeks old.
Hi Pauline!
It has been a long time since we've exchanged the last e-mail! Our badgers grew up happy (and healthy) and the landowners built an amazing artificial sett for them!
Since April, they've been on a small outside enclosure, where they were fed once a day through a hole in the fence. I've never been there because I was the one who cared for them until weaning, but my colleagues told me that they remained somewhat tame.
Nevertheless, when they were caught to be microchipped and transported to the sett, they had to be lured with their favorite food in order to come outside! :)
They have been in the sett in Alentejo (about 100 km from here) for almost 2 weeks and the supervisor feeds them everyday (except on weekends) and has been able to see them very often and assure us that they are fine. Since Alentejo is a very poor area as far as badger food is concerned, they will be kept in a confined area and fed until the end of January and only then the sett will be open.
And to finish, I REALLY have to thank you for the help you gave us with these cubs. We worked really hard to do something unique in Portugal (and maybe in all of Iberia), but your advice was greatly valuable for our success! :)
For all the rest, I just have to wish the best of luck and success to your work. I hope we can go and visit Secret World someday!
Best wishes, Carla Ferreira
