Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m Pat, short for Patrick Charuel. I’m French and I live in the south of France, close to the Spanish border. I’ve been airbrushing for 10 years. For me, the airbrush is my favorite tool but I also use pencils and classic brush. The goal is to be able to get the rendering you want no matter the tool you use.

Required materials: Airbrush: HANSA top line 281 and PAASCHE VLS. JVR acrylic base coat Auto Air , Schmincke Aero-Color Candy: Petzolts

The tank is in good shape and the first thing to do is to sand it with a 1200 wet paper. I de grease the surface with thinner and spray it with white base coat from JVR. I use JVR acrylic base coat be- cause you can use various types of erasers and scrape it, nearly as paperboard. This practice is impossible on a regular primer like solvent paints which are too smooth. After the base coat has dried completely, I sand it with 320 dry paper, just to increase ad- hesion of the next base coat. After sanding, don’t forget to clean the tank with thinner. Secondly, I spray a Pearl White Auto Air in order to use Candy later. The rendering of Candy is better on metallic or iridescent colors.

I draw the design directly on the masking paper, this way you gain time by avoiding a transfer stage and you don’t leave any trace on the base coat. When the drawing is finished, I make some prints or copies of it.
