My name is Kimmo Jurvanen and I live in Sweden. Airbrushing has been a hobby of mine for about 7 years.
Materials used. Golden Fluid Acrylics, Golden GAC 900 (Acrylic polymer for Clothing, when heat-set properly, It offers a very soft hand and laundering stability.) 1 white 100% cotton T-shirt, Airbrush used Richpen 113C. Before I do any painting on the T-shirt I pre-wash the shirt, to remove the starch-based sizing and other materials that may come in first wash and ruin my painting.
1) The shirt has been stretched over a piece of Maison- ette and held on place with some spring clamps, note,, I have the board inside the shirt. I start with doing a rough drawing of my design on the T- shirt with a soft lead pencil by free hand. I try to keep the drawing as simple as possible, no need to do any details because they would be covered while paint- ing anyway. I only do some” Key lines” for guidance.
2) When done with my drawing I take some GAC 900 and spray over my drawing. Let it air dry for 4-5 min, then cover the T-shirt with an old pillow case and heat-set with an iron for about 1-2 minutes, moving the iron at all times. The ironing also helps insure wash- ability and to flatten out the nap of the T-shirt.
3) I begin with using raw umber to fill in the outlines of my drawing, I also use it
as a ground color for the hands and skull. for the contours of a ripped shirt I use Paynes Gray. I spray the Paynes Gray in random strokes on the shirt, this to make it look like there of wrinkles under the finger tips. The Paynes Gray also will add some more color to my painting. My intention is to make it look like the skeleton is ripping a hole in the shirt trying to get out.
