The Art Work of Rod Fuchs
Born in Canada, Rod Fuchs moved to the United States in 1998. Shortly thereafter, and with the support of family, he decided to try to put his artistic ability to work for him. It wasn’t long before he began painting custom bikes and formed Angel’s Custom Paint and Design with his wife and partner, Cherie. His work has found a high demand in the custom motorcycle industry and can be seen on motorcycles around the world. Rod stresses the impor-
tance sketching has had in the development of his work. Currently, Rod is trying to scale back the number of bikes he takes on in order to focus more on fine art, print work and commercial illustration with interests primarily in fantasy and wildlife art. He and his wife will soon be moving into a large studio space and opening a gallery in Springfield, Ten- nessee. You can see more of Rod’s work at www.fuchsart. com and can contact him via email at

11) The idea for this painting was to have bio-mechanical arms finishing the airbrushing of a woman. Working out a concept or direction in a sketchbook is often the first step in my projects. I find roughing out designs beforehand saves a lot of head-scratch- ing and second guessing later on.
2) Using my concept sketches for reference, the final layout was drawn out on Crescent 9208 hot-press illustration board. Since I had already worked out the design elements and composition in my sketchbook, all I really needed was a light pencil outline. The whole board was then covered with frisket film masking material and the design was cut out.
