9) Because I’m planning on doing quite a bit of open spraying on the background and don’t want any over spray on the woman, the frisket is taped over to make sure all the cut lines are covered. It looks like hell, but is a quick and easy way to prevent this.


Realizing how big and empty the background area ap- peared is, I wanted to add something to break it up just a little. Using a freehand shield and Transparent Black, I sprayed some horizontal bars. Nothing much, but just enough to lead your eye into the center of the painting. Viridian was sprayed over the Black. Transparent Royal Blue and Black were then used to mist along the outer edge to complete the fade.


10) Time to peel all the masking and take a look! This is where the options gained by working on a board really come into play. I use a Sanford Eraser Stick and my X-acto knife for scraping and high lighting some areas and colored pencils and a liner brush for touch-ups and details. And here, I just plain have fun with it. And the best part, this is my design, so I get to make the rules!
