Commercials 30 The How it works
For a place in the Top 30, a commercials production outfit is ranked across five criteria – the number of directors on its roster, its showing at seven award shows (Cannes Lions, Clios, Kinsale Sharks, D&ADs, BTAAs, Creative Circle Awards and the APA Collection), its standing among its peers, the number of ads it’s made and whether it houses one of the survey’s most voted for directors or whether it made one of the survey’s most voted for ads. Each company’s best three scores then go forward to create its final total. The Commercials 30 will also soon be available online at

Times are certainly still tough with budgets tight, pitches long and jobs hard to win. But most production companies reckon the clouds are clearing a little. And although the TV ad is still the main game, all producers are keen to try new things too. Jon Creamer reports
