Jennie Tal & Thomas Williams Continued from page 36 with story by Jennie Tal
When Thomas and Jennie announced their engagement in late October of 2009, not too many close friends and family were able to feign much surprise. Not that Thomas had prepped them for the Oct. 23 announcement, either. In fact, both sisters (Jennie has one; Thomas as one) and two close friends started crying almost immediately. They, like pretty much everyone else, knew that Jennie and Thomas were great together.
And, having survived the 10-month wedding planning madness and about two months of married life, they still are.
From the start, Jennie and Thomas wanted their wedding to be about people. Each other and their loved ones – that was what was important to them. Originally envisioning a simple, inexpensive wedding, they quickly realized even modest weddings can be expensive. That’s when they called in those loved ones to make their perfect day possible.
Jennie is lucky to have parents that live about two hours away in a beautiful 10-bedroom bed and breakfast. At first, the couple was hesitant to have their wedding there – they were worried that Jennie’s parents wouldn’t be able to enjoy the day because of all the work they’d feel was necessary. But after some promises were made and some help was hired – the location (the spectacular Mark Addy Bed & Breakfast in Nellysford, VA) was set.
The B&B was the perfect location – beautiful views and gardens filled with flowers of every color imaginable, an in-house chef, a Russian

Sage-lined bridal path that lead to a great gazebo under for the multi-cultural, interfaith ceremony officiated by Rev. Claire Goodman of Charlottesville, an industrial kitchen and owners/parents with years of wedding- planning and hosting experience. Check, check and check.
As many brides will tell you, other than the venue and food, the next biggest expense can be a photographer. Jennie and Thomas had a pretty small budget but Korie Lynn Photography’s photos were definitely something they were willing to splurge for. Jennie met Korie Lynn at a bridal expo – the only one she attended – and fell in love with her photos right away. She showed the photographer’s website to her husband-to-be and they decided that her creative, whimsical yet true-to-life, detailed and simply fantastic photos were something they just could not live without.
With a venue and photographer ready to go, things were starting to happen, but there was still a lot to do.
Thomas works full time and while they were planning the wedding, Jennie was working full time, as well, and going to graduate school full time, too. To say they were busy would be an understatement, but they didn’t hire a wedding planner. Instead, Jennie signed up for TheKnot. com, figured out what they needed to do and started about 15 Google Docs spreadsheets. Then the couple went back to those loved ones and created a team of planners.
