Went to be with our LordonOctober 12, 2010. She was aresident of Atlantic Shores Retirement Community in Virginia Beach, Virginia and formerly from Arlington, Virginia.


Eloise was born to Clinton Briggs Poyner and Louise Halbert Poyner at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia on September 21, 1918. At an early age, she moved to Washington, DC with her family and resided thereuntil her marriage in 1936 to Samuel BernardAshford. The two of them moved to Arlington, Virginia wherethey resided for 60 years until her husband passed. She then moved to Virginia Beach to be near her sister,Helen DelFuoco and her family.Eloise was adedicated homemaker to her loving husband, Bernie and her adopted son, Mark Poyner.


She was aloving and caring wife and mother and adored her three (3) grandchildren, Karen, James and Jennifer Poyner.Eloise was predeceased by two (2) sisters, Ethel Flanigan and her husband, Peter and Dora C. Henderson; two (2) brothers, Clinton Briggs Poyner,Jr. and James C. Poyner; along with astep-daughter,Carlyn Nixon. She leaves to cherish her memories her sister,Helen Poyner DelFuoco of Virginia Beach; her sister-in- law,Helen Shives Poyner of South Carolina; two (2) nieces, Deborah Spitzinger and Carol Atkinson,


both of Maryland; six (6) nephews, Daniel Poyner and wife, Carol of Maryland, Bruce Poyner and wife, Terry of Maryland, Ronald K. McIntosh of Virginia Beach, John Samuel McIntosh and wife, Erin of California, Charles J. McIntosh and wife, Cindy of Virginia Beach and Scott J.
