News Corp’s Ugly
October Surprise: More than 20 million sports fans could miss the World Series because of News Corp’s new policy of widespread sports blackouts
(And you think voters are angry now?)
News Corp has a new corporate strategy to fatten their bottom line: seek massive fee increases from TV customers by yanking programming off the air. Since October 1st, News Corp has pulled the plug on 67 pro sports teams across the country.
Unprecedented.
It’s why they pulled their signal off Cablevision and are now threatening to blackout Dish Network customers.
A News Corp blackout of Cablevision and Dish Network would mean more than 20 million people won’t be able to see the World Series.
The good news is the FCC asked Cablevision and News Corp to agree to mediation. Cablevision agreed. The bad news is News Corp thumbed its nose at the FCC and declined.
And then more than fifty senior elected officials called for binding arbitration. Cablevision said yes. Again, News Corp said no.
Meanwhile, News Corp is just recklessly blacking out America’s sports teams to get more money.
More than 20 million World Series viewers across the country will have a lot to be angry about if News Corp isn’t stopped.
Call 1-877-NOTV TAX or visit
www.cablevision.com/fox and demand that News Corp put America’s sports teams back on television.
Since October 1st, News Corp has blacked out all of these pro sports teams to get higher fees:
