3D scanning and colour imaging
Sick (UK), a sensor and
sensing systems manufacturer,
has launched the ColorRanger E, providing high-speed 3D scanning and colour imaging. ColorRanger E offers the functionality of a 3D camera with a line scan colour camera, to provide two modes of quality inspection within a single unit. The
Accessories Protective enclosures
AutoVimation’s compact Fire Salamander series of protective
enclosures has been specially developed to protect camera systems in applications with strict hygiene requirements.
Made from corrosion-resistant V4A stainless steel (1.4404), the housings do not have any corners or ridges. Their front panel is installed flush with the enclosure cover, and an electropolished surface prevents the accumulation of dirt and germs. Available in various lengths and suitable for all compact cameras with a maximum width across corners of 55mm, Fire Salamander enclosures provide IP67 protection.
The system protects sensitive camera electronics in food industry applications, where cameras can be subjected to wet and cold environments with several high-pressure cleanings per day.

camera can measure colour, shape, contrast, volume and height, to ensure product quality. It is ideal for use in applications including food processing, electronics, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and building material production. The ColorRanger E provides high- resolution RGB colour, up to 3,072 pixels per channel. Using MultiScan technology the camera can deliver simultaneous 3D colour information at more than 11kHz. Multiple inspections can be performed in parallel, at full production speed, reducing the need for multiple cameras. This can save
investment, maintenance and labour costs, as well as time, and makes it easier to combine data for analysis. The ColorRanger E delivers high- quality 3D and multi-linear colour data, including RGB, near and IR and monochrome without IT content, on a Gigabit Ethernet communication interface, which facilitates convenient remote PC access for quality monitoring.
Colour is ensured by well separated colour filters of high spectral response, on-chip white balancing, and spatially corrected colour channel output.
To eliminate interference from the different light sources used for 3D and colour imaging, the ColorRanger E has a filter option for light source separation.

Handheld ID scanner Cognex has launched its next- generation DataMan handheld industrial ID scanner, the DataMan 8000 series. The rugged scanner is designed for the factory floor and offers advanced code reading technology using IDMax technology for reading
Ideal for video networks Pleora Technologies, a provider of networked
video connectivity solutions, has released the vDisplay family of IP engines. The video receivers are designed specifically for viewing stations and specialised processing appliances on high-performance video networks. The vDisplay IP engines are comprised of compact, purpose- built hardware that allows high- resolution video streams on GigE (Gigabit Ethernet) networks to be displayed directly on monitors, in real time, without the need for a PC. They can also be used for real-time video capture in specialised processing appliances. The engines comply fully with the open, global GigE Vision and GenICam standards.
By replacing PCs with ultra- efficient hardware, vDisplay engines shrink the size, lower the cost, reduce the power consumption, and improve the reliability of viewing stations and video processing appliances. They
are ideal for OEMs and integrators building high-performance video products and systems for the military, medical, and manufacturing sectors. Pleora will initially offer the vDisplay HDMI-Pro IP engine. The HDMI-Pro engine converts streaming IP video to standard HDMI/DVI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface/Digital Visual Interface) formats for real-time display on off-the-shelf monitors. It auto-senses the display capabilities of the attached monitor and adjusts the image formats and resolution of the incoming video stream to match the monitor’s refresh rate and resolution. The HDMI-Pro engine is available as a compact OEM board set or a small enclosed unit.
Pleora’s vDisplay HDMI-Pro IP engine integrates with all other elements in Pleora’s solution set for high-performance networked video connectivity, including its iPORT IP engines, eBUS drivers, the eBUS-PureGEV SDK, and the AutoGEV XML generation tool.

Vision starter kit Scorpion Vision has launched an entry-level machine vision kit for users wanting to investigate the potential of machine vision in their manufacturing environment, but don’t want to make significant investment in vision technology. The Unibrain Scorpion starter kit contains a full suite of vision tools that will enable the user to automatically identify objects, read bar codes, write scripts, find angles and lines, measure edges and identify colours. The package also includes: a
Scorpion Lite license; a Unibrain Fire-i camera module; a 4.3mm lens; a 4.5-metre FireWire cable; a 1394a interface board; support; and a comprehensive list of tutorials for various vision tasks, along with examples to assist the user. No programming is required
and users can expect to have a camera connected and the software identifying and measuring within 30 minutes. The starter kit costs £830.
