show preview: Vision 2010 Spotlight on Vision

The Vision show in Stuttgart, held from 9-11 November, is one of the highlights in the industry’s events calendar. Greg Blackman previews some of exhibitors

Active Silicon will exhibit its range of frame grabbers for PCI Express, PCI, PMC, cPCI and PCI/104-Express form factors, supporting

CoaXPress, HD-SDI, Camera Link and analogue cameras. New this year is the HD-SDI interface module for the Sony FCB-H camera. The module converts the high-quality digital output from the FCB-H11 to a HD-SDI format in 1080i or 720p resolutions. The module also includes an RS- 232 port as well as access to the composite and HD component video signals. Active Silicon will also showcase the power

and flexibility of CoaXPress with a unique demonstration of video, power and control over a single coax cable. Mounted on a rotating turret and utilising slip-ring technology, the Sony FCB-H11 transfers high definition video to the Phoenix CXP frame grabber over 40m of coax cable. The Phoenix provides power and also communicates with the camera over the same coax cable. www.activesilicon.com

Allied Vision

Technologies will be presenting several products

and exciting application demonstrations at the show. Two new Manta models will premiere at Vision, the Manta G-033 and G-504, which extend the Manta line at the top and bottom with VGA and five-megapixel resolution. Moreover, Manta options such as periscope right-angle heads, a board-level version and white medical housings are available. The Guppy Pro will be displayed, measuring

just 29 x 29 x 29mm. The new Guppy family has also become faster, thanks to its IEEE1394b interface with image rates from up to 120fps with VGA resolution. Also on show will be the Prosilica GX1920.

This camera is equipped with Sony’s fast ICX674 CCD sensor and, thanks to the Quad-

Tap sensor technology and Link Aggregation Interface, promises high image rates – even at full HD resolution. The new periscope housing variation is also available for the Prosilica GX family. Demonstrations shown on AVT’s booth

include the pi4_workerbot, an industrial robot from Berlin’s pi4_robotics using AVT’s FireWire cameras, and an interactive advertising screen operating with the Prosilica GX camera. www.alliedvisiontec.com

Alysium-Tech will be releasing two new designs for 1394b screw locking plugs (straight and angled versions), which have a shorter plug body length, utilise an enhanced design of contact assembly and feature a new die cast shell. These smaller designs reflect the market trend of smaller camera designs, coupled with various application space constraints, and can be utilised in assemblies in conjunction with Alysium-Tech’s portfolio of 1394 cables (extended length, high-flex life, high temp, reduced OD versions, etc). Other developments will also be shown, such

as ‘extreme’ rating high flex life Gigabit Ethernet and 1394 cables, additional termination options for USB2 and USB3, and new designs of circular connectors. Alysium-Tech supplies durable and reliable

cable assemblies for machine vision applications. These products fulfil the enhanced requirements of the industrial and automotive markets in terms of electrical and mechanical capabilities and quality level. www.alysium-tech.com

AnaFocus will demonstrate several CMOS area scan and line scan image sensors with on-chip intelligence. The sensors are suited to various 2D and 3D inspection applications at speeds of several thousand frames per second. Among the products on display will be the

Eye-RIS Vision System on-a-chip (Eye-RIS VSoC). The device represents a true single-chip

implementation of a complete and autonomous industrial vision system. AnaFocus specialises in the design and mass production of customised and standard CMOS image sensors with embedded intelligence and single-

chip vision systems. The embedded functionality in AnaFocus chips allows camera vendors to develop ultra-compact high-speed, high- performance industrial cameras and vision sensors with short and inexpensive development cycles. www.anafocus.com

Aqsense will showcase the SAL3D library, guaranteeing quick and precise capture of three- dimensional objects using 3D point clouds.

SAL3D, the standard software library for

3D image processing applications, allows a non-contact measurement, analysis and documentation of any three dimensional component in high-speed production processes. The rapid comparison with a reference model is of advantage specifically in the automotive industry, where complex components are produced with a high demand for precision and safety. In this environment, it is vital for the production process to have a dimensional accuracy and stability. Analysis of the point cloud enables the

measurement of body and chassis parts, directly after being shaped by the stamping press. A prototype for this application was developed for BMW in a cooperative effort between Aqsense, Photonfocus and Heitec, which successfully proved the technical feasibility of such a concept.
