show preview: Vision 2010

all GigE Vision camera customers of Stemmer Imaging receive a reliable, independent and powerful SDK for the named operating systems that allows the benefi ts of the GigE Vision technology to be fully exploited. The independent toolkit offers versatility in camera interfacing and includes everything a customer needs to develop their imaging application quickly and easily. www.stemmer-imaging.com

The UK industrial Vision Association (UKiVA), a Special Interest Group of the Processing and Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA), will be attending the show. UKIVA technical consultant, Don Braggins, said: ‘Ten UKIVA members or their parent companies are exhibiting at Vision. In addition, many other UKIVA members distribute products from principals who will be exhibiting so we expect many of our members to be attending the show. Our stand provides our members who are visiting, but not exhibiting, somewhere that they can have as a point of contact at the show as well as a location that they can use for business meetings. ‘As this is Europe’s leading vision show, it

attracts a large body of the most important players in the industry so it is an excellent networking opportunity for the association to meet up with potential new members.’ www.ukiva.org

Vision Components will present a special display of soccer robots. These robots, equipped with intelligent VC cameras, will compete against each other in two-on-two matches and penalty shootouts. The ‘Tech United’ team from Eindhoven University, Netherlands, which recently won

the RoboCup

German Open in Magdeburg and fi nished second in the Middle Size League at

the

RoboCup in Singapore, will be in charge of the robot soccer players. The robots developed by Tech United are equipped with VC 4458-type 1GHz cameras, which are installed to look up at an angle, thus providing a 360° fi eld of vision. Thanks to the smart cameras, the robots never lose track of the ball. Intelligent algorithms ensure that game tactics are implemented – a strategy that has repeatedly carried the team into the fi nals. www.vision-components.com

The German-based

company, Vrmagic, will present an intelligent, freely programmable multi-sensor camera at the show, which is able to perform complex image processing tasks fully independently. Up to four

external sensors can be connected to the central unit of the camera by a fl ex-foil-cable with LVDS transmission. The multi-sensor camera can produce pixel-synchronous images from several positions, as required for 3D reconstruction of moving objects, for example. With a standard Debian Linux operating

system, the intelligent camera provides developers with a convenient platform for programming their own applications and transferring them to the camera by means of cross-compilers. Host system and camera have the same API. Equipped with the

DaVinci processor from Texas Instruments, the components feature a 300MHz ARM9 processor running the Linux operating system, and a 600MHz DSP with 4,800MIPs that is entirely available for image processing tasks. The dimensions of the freely positionable

external sensors are 28 x 19mm. The CMOS sensors with global shutter are available in monochrome or colour. The image data is coordinated on an FPGA module with 256MB RAM. www.vrmagic-imaging.com

Z-laser will exhibit its new line laser ZM18- DM, an all-purpose laser ideally suited to structured lighting for 3D measurement, surface inspection, bio-photonics, medical, and alignment applications.

Due to the wide range of available optics, various

customised solutions can be engineered. Operating at 5-30VDC, the laser can be modulated digitally up to 100kHz frequency. This allows the laser to be switched on and off in sync with a camera, offering true imaging capability as well as extended laser lifetime. The ZM18-DM is available in wavelengths of red, blue and IR with output powers up to 200mW. OEMs will appreciate the simple, external hand focusing mechanism the lasers provide, as well as the thread-mounted barrel for easy and versatile mounting. Beside the line laser, Z-Laser will present

its Climate Case housing for working in very harsh environments. Manufacturers in harsh environments, such as the steel industry, will benefi t from stable line projections in a wide temperature range of -20 to +50°C. www.z-laser.com
