Antonio Cocozzella RESTAURATEUR
Antonio Cocozzella, 83, propri-
etor of Sole D’Italia pizzeria in Silver Spring, died Aug. 30 at his home in Silver Spring. He had Parkinson’s disease. Sole D’Italia, which Mr. Cocoz- zella opened in the early 1970s, was described in 1992 by The Washington Post as a no-frills eatery “with a remarkable record of sustained quality over the years.” Located on Layhill Road, it attracted families and little lea- guers after ballgames.
Antonio Cocozzella was born
in Monacilioni, Italy. He moved to the United States in 1947 and learned stonemasonry and brick- laying from his father-in-law. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1954. He spent about 14 years as a stonemason and bricklayer in the Washington area before opening Colombo Pizza Villa in Columbia, which closed in the early 1970s. Mr. Cocozzella ran Sole D’Italia for about 20 years. In 1975, Mr. Cocozzella re- ceived a patent for a process to produce frozen pizzas. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Silver Spring. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Rachel DeRita Cocozzella, and their daughter, Laura Grif- fiths, both of Silver Spring; a brother, Emilio Cocozzella of Ger- mantown; and two grandchil- dren.

Frank E. DeToro, 88, a volun-
teer at the Reston Community Center who served as an election officer for Fairfax County during the 1990s and 2000s, died Aug. 29 at a hospice in Branford, Conn., of complications after a stroke. Mr. DeToro lived in Herndon from 1988 until January. Before moving to Northern Virginia for his retirement, he was a regional manager at Lawyers Title Insur- ance Corp. and a stockbroker in New Haven, Conn. Frank Edward DeToro was a
New Haven native and received a degree in engineering from the University of New Haven in 1948. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. His wife of 50 years, Helen Pao-
lella DeToro, died in 1992. Survivors include six children,

Nannie "Nan" Rachel Jones Burrill, age 93, of Freeport, Maine; formerly of Oak Grove, Virginia died peacefully on Sunday, September 5, 2010. She was born on June 13, 1917 in Marion, Virginia, the daughter of the late Fred and Lundy Olivia Hutton Jones. She was the wife of the late James E. "Jim" Burrill. She was a homemaker for her husband and children and loved the outdoors and gardening.

On Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at La Costa Glen Retirement Community in Carlsbad, CA. Formerly of Rockville, MD, 1969-2008 and Wilmette, IL, 1958-69 where she was President of the North Shore Associates in 1963. She was born in Minneapolis, MN, on March 18, 1923, to Lincoln Charles and Naomi Marie Erickson Hicks, the middle of five children. Her brother, Lincoln Charles Hicks, and two sisters, Lillian Charlotte Hicks Rennix and Sally Ann Hicks Heckert survive her. Her brother WilliamWoodrow Hicks, predeceased her. During WWII, she worked for the Weather Bureau in Gladwin, MI, where she met her future husband, William Mills Foulks of Milwau- kee, WI, to whom she was married almost 55 years when he died in 1999. She is survived by four daughters, Pamela Wincup (G.Kim) of Bethesda, MD, Ginger Janes (Douglas) of Rockville, MD, Deborah Cascarano (James) of Lake Bluff, IL and Jody Chambers of Leucadia, CA; by five grandchildren, Tori W. Ragen, Todd Wincup, Bret Wincup, James Cascarano and Ella Chambers; six great-grand- children, many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her fiance, William S. Rule. For nearly all her life she was an avid tennis player, golfer, and bridge player. A memorial service will be held in the fall in Wilmette, IL, at the First Presbyterian Church where her remains will be interred in the Chapel Garden. FORREST HARVEY HYDE (Age 76) Passed away Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was born January 12, 1934 to John and Essie (Quarles) Hyde. He and his wife, Mary Jo moved to Altus from College Park, Maryland in 2005. Mr. Hyde had been a printer for the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing for over 35 years before his retirement. He had many interesting stories and pieces of memorabilia that he enjoyed sharing with others. He was a member of the “McDonald’s Coffee Club” and will leave behind many cherished friends from that group. Forrest is lovingly survived by his wife, Mary Jo of the home; three children, Michael Hyde and wife Judith Matthews of Ft. Worth, TX, Ronald Hyde and wife Shirley of College Park, Maryland and Dr. Pamela Hyde and husband Christopher Riffle of Altus, OK; one sister and brother-in- law, Francis and Bill Ward of Lithia Springs, Georgia; and by five grandchildren, three great- grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Services for Forrest Hyde were held 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at the Centennial Memorial at Altus City Cemetery with Chaplain Sue Smaaland officiating. Passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 7, 2010 at his home in Carroll Valley. He was born to Francis Edward and Mary (Rodden) Ounan on September 21, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA He graduated from St. Thomas More Catholic High School in 1957, then The Catholic Universi- ty of America in Washington, DC in 1963 and served in the Kennedy White House. John loved Big Band Music and played trumpet in his school dance band. John was a longtime court reporter in Philadel- phia, and a member of the Economics Depart- ment of the Catholic University for many years until his retirement in 1995. He was a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion Post #202, Gettysburg, and a lover of all things Irish. He was Knighted many times and received many awards for his good works with the Catholic Church all around the word. He volunteered at the Franciscan Monastery in DC, and once snuck Bibles into Soviet Russia. Dr. Ounan was honored to serve on the Carroll Valley zoning board for the last few years and really loved living here. He knew John Kennedy, 5 Popes, met Elvis and was the best man at Johnny Unitas’ wedding! What a Life! He always had a bad joke or a good story for everyone he met, we’ll miss you Dad. John Ounan is survived by his son, Mark F. Ounan, United States Army of Fairfield; and his sister Mary Ounan of Glen Mills, PA. He was preceded in death by one brother, Francis Ounan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 256 Tract Rd., Fairfield, PA with the Rev. Fr. Michael Messaro Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 10, 2010 as well as from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday with both viewings being held at the church.
