IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN AND ALI TOOZE EXPLAINS WHY THIS YEAR’S CONFERENCE IS A MUST ATTEND EVENT
I
t is just a few weeks until the 2010 BPA Annual Conference takes place at the Kensington Events and Conference Centre and around 100 members are booked to attend already. Te programme has been designed to reflect current government
thinking and will examine how the coalition’s proposed fiscal measures are likely to affect those working in the parking sector – as well as providing food for thought on ways to cope with the cuts. As the title ‘Parking: It’s Everyone’s Business’
suggests, the message throughout this event is that now – more than ever – we should be looking for opportunities to work together to deliver efficiency, best value and sustainability in parking. Te conference will seek to examine how effective and efficient parking services may be delivered through collaboration and strategic partnerships between different parties in local communities with responsibility for parking management. Te new Masterclass sessions will give practical tips to delegates on how to deliver more with less while maintaining their green credentials and giving a better understanding of parking management across all sectors. In tough times it is crucial to pull together and parking really is everyone’s business.
Minister to speak Te BPA is delighted to announce that Transport Minister, Norman Baker MP, will attend the Annual Conference and deliver the Minister’s

of speakers, many of whom may be new to BPA members and who will bring a wealth of experience to share with delegates. To give you a taste of what to expect from the line up we would like to introduce three recently confirmed presenters whose profiles are featured on page 60. Speaking of things new – the conference will be pleased to welcome delegates from the healthcare

and higher education sectors this year. NHS trusts and universities are some of the UK’s
largest employers, and both have thousands of staff, patients, students and visitors with complex travel demands – they also interact extensively with their surrounding communities. It is important that all organisations that have a
significant impact on the behaviour of the travelling public don’t work in isolation on crucial issues, such as travel planning and parking policy. Te BPA’s Annual Conference will look at how joined up thinking may assist in reaching an overall reduction in congestion and encourage and make alternative transport use more accessible and financially beneficial. It will also look at measures needed to
