COMPANY NEWS Entertaining challenge

Visitors to the Edinburgh Festival were able to take advantage of the newly-installed RingGo pay-by-phone system, which has replaced the mPark phone service. Pressure was on the

RingGo team as the City of Edinburgh Council stipulated that the new service had to be in place before the start of the seven different Festivals. Edinburgh’s status as

a World Heritage City meant an adaptation of the standard signage, with less prominent stickers and the Council’s branding incorporated. Te previous supplier

had used a different payment system, which necessitated a voucher in the windscreen. Anne Snelson,

marketing manager for RingGo, explained why this provided a set of challenges: ‘In all our

previous phone parking takeovers, while there have been differences between the services, we’ve always transferred one “ticketless” service to another. In Edinburgh, as well as encouraging new users onto the service, we needed to encourage existing customers, by explaining that they no longer need a physical voucher, and they don’t need to press any buttons on the machine.’

defibrillator machine. The new car park

has electric car charging points, a floor coating that absorbs spilt fuel and is cleaned using 60 per cent less water than is standard. The car park is an eye catching landmark thanks to its green façade. Adam Bidder,

Q-Park, said: ‘We are encouraging the people of Sheffield to help us name this car park, just as they named one of our other car parks The Cheesegrater.’

Car park operator Parking Professionals has been awarded the management contract to operate the Wimbledon Bridge House car park, or the ‘Fridge on the Bridge’ as it is known locally. The five-year management agreement will include a thorough refurbishment of the car park and additional features will include

a breathalyser, buggy loan, full car wash and valeting services. The Wimbledon-

based company has 30 years experience in car park management and a 100 per cent record in achieving Safer Parking Scheme Park Mark awards for its car parks. The Bridge House car park has been awarded Park Mark status maintaining that record. Managing director

Simon Burnett, said: ‘One of our strengths, respected across the parking industry, is Parking Professionals’s ability to achieve record levels of space utilisation and hence revenue in all our managed car parks.
