Converter steps up and down
Powerstax has introduced a 500Woutput, 'full brick' converter, designed to provide both conventional step-down voltage conversion aswell as themore unusual step-up conversion.
CEO of Powerstax, TimWorley, said: ”Our F501 high efficiency converter gives
enormous versatility and space saving in a cost effective package. By simply combining a number of F501s in series a DC output up to 1,200Vmay be created froma 12V input and up to 8kWof output power can be obtained by running themin parallel.”
The F501 achieves power density of 5.53W/cm³ and boasts up to 90 per cent
efficiencies.With fixed frequency operation and low ripple, the F501 is ideal for the telecoms and IT industries, while automated production and test ensure high reliability. In-built protection functions such as over voltage, under voltage and short circuit protection are complemented by features such as a thermalmonitoring signal to provide early warning of potential systemfaults.

Linear Technology introduces the LTM8033, a complete 3A DC/DC µModule regulator system. In addition to an onboard inductor, DC/DC converter and supporting circuitry, it includes an EMI filter,making it compliant with EN55022 Class B by a widemargin. The circuitry is housed in a 11.25 by 15 by 4.32mmenclosed plastic LGA package and weighs 2.3g. The device operates froman input voltage range of 3.6 to 36V and can provide a regulated output voltage ranging from0.8 to 24V at up to 3A. Ifmore than 3A is required,multiple LTM8033 devices can be paralleled for current sharing.
Its compact design and EN55022 compliance allow the LTM8033
to be used in applications that require low noise operation such as medical equipment, avionics systems, communication wireless systems and ultrasonic detectors. It has a resistor-selectable switching frequency adjustable from200kHz to 2.4MHz. The LTM8033 is rated for operation from-40 to 125°C and -55 to 125°C with 1,000-piece pricing starting at $11.95 each.

Renesas Electronics announced availability of its newSuperSpeed Universal Serial Bus (USB 3.0) host controller, µPD720200A. It offers 85 per cent less power consumption than the company's existing µPD720200 host controller when peripheral devices, such asmice, are not connected to the ports. It also has the same footprint as the previous device.
Supporting data transfer rates of up to 5Gbps,
the newdevice achieves power consumption of 50mWsupporting notebook PCswith longer battery life aswell as high data transfer rates.
The company also provides a driver solution, a
USB attached SCSI protocol (UASP) driver, designed specifically to enhance the performance of the company's USB 3.0 host controller.
Renesas Electronics' newhost controller is
expected to provide longer battery life for notebook PCs and netbookswhile facilitating the development of desktop PCs and digital home applianceswith lower power consumption.

National Semiconductor has introduced a new synchronous voltage-mode buck controller that drives a variety of high-current point-of-load applications in printers, telecom, networking and embedded computing applications.
This addition to National’s PowerWise
energy-efficient product family, is a feature-rich 20V synchronous buck controller. The LM27402 universal point-of-load controller integrates a wide input voltage range, integrated high- current gate drivers with adaptive dead-time, inductor DCR current sensing and on-chip bias supply sub-regulator, all incorporated into a single chip.
Offered in a 16-pin thermally enhanced TSSOP
and 4.0 by 4.0mmLLP package, the LM27402 is priced at $1.68 in 1,000-unit quantities.
