Sourcing ELECTRONICS
constant investment incomponent
quality
Your distributor can help you guarantee component quality, explainsmarketing director at America II Electronics, AntonWurr
With over three billion components in stock, available for sale and ready to ship, independent distributor, America II, has nothing if not a large inventory. But what about quality assurance? Simply providing an extensive line card of product is not enough. America II also aims to provide unparalleled commitment to quality.
Quality processes are not built overnight. America II Electronics
has been around for 21 years, each year advancing its quality assurance techniques. In addition, America II has partnered with test house, Premier Semiconductor Services, in a bid to stay on the cutting edge of innovation in the area of testing and quality assurance. Thismakes America II one of the first independent distributors to have a third-party test facility within its distribution centre, ensuring an autonomous and objective inspection process.
So what should a customer look for when choosing a
distributor?Whether it’s an independent distributor or a franchised one, customers should seek distributors that focus on quality and continuous improvement. America II encourages customers to conduct an on-site quality audit so they can see their distributor’s processes and facilities to ensure they’re receiving optimum quality.
One way in which America IImaintains its quality
strategy is via its on-staff component engineers and NARTE-certified ESD technician. The company is ISO 9001 and ANSI S20.20 certified, CCAP-101 certified in counterfeit avoidance and detection and amember of IDEA, a resource designed to help independent distributors find relevant quality information and participate in advanced industry ethics.
Ensuring quality products starts at the beginning with
a strict vendor qualification policy. Based on its ISO vendormanagement system, America II currently has over 1,700 suppliers permanently disqualified. In addition, a large portion of the company's inventory consists of factory-fresh product, while another portion is customer-owned and

consigned for asset recovery. All product is new and is carefully vetted through America II's quality system.
Components are inspected on arrival and prior to shipping
Components are inspected when arriving at the America II
facilities and undergo a final inspection prior to shipping. They go through several tests including visual inspection with high magnification microscopes, solvency/marking permanency tests, as well as physical dimension tests. In addition, IDEA-ICE 3000 certified quality inspectors research components and their packaging to ensure the parts have been handled, stored and packaged in a manner that’s consistent with industry standards.
If at any time a component does not pass any of these tests, or if
a customer specifies additional testing, the product is forwarded to America II’s third-party in-house test partner, Premier Semiconductor Services, for additional testing. There, RoHS compliance testing, x-ray, de-capsulation, solderability, CCAP counterfeit testing and electrical tests are conducted to ensure only authentic high- quality products are being distributed.
In the end, customers should feel certain that the
distributor they partner with has a robust quality systemand, more importantly, a secure supply chain. In fact, America II is so confident in its quality
practices that the company recently revealed the America II ten year guarantee. While the industry standard warranty on components is one year, America II guarantees parts for a period of ten years. Initiatives like this allow customers to buy with confidence and secure
product thatmeets their quality needs.
