Talking tools As an example, Digi-Key recently launched its iPhone application
Operating from a single location in the US allows Digi-Key to aggregate component purchases
for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users in Europe. Digi-Key’s iPhone application is currently available in English and allows customers tomake Digi-Key purchases. The iPhone application supports all currencies and users can view orders created fromweb, phone, fax andmobile devices. Customers can download the application at no cost in the App Store on iTunes (
www.itunes.com).
Other initiatives include Digi-Key’s Bill-of-Materials (BOM)
Manager, which provides real-time pricing and availability, secure storage and easy search and reference features. The BOMsystem allows purchasers to create separate BOMs for specific projects and place orders for varying quantities of assemblies to be produced. Purchasers can create and save a BOMwith correct part ratios andmultiply by the number of assemblies during the ordering process.
Further Digi-Key strengths centre on its ability to provide
customers worldwide with the breadth of product line that can only be offered by a distributor operating froma single worldwide location. Operating froma single location in the US allows Digi-Key to aggregate component purchases fromcustomers worldwide, which, in turn, allows it to offer a large selection of electronic components for immediate shipment. Consolidating order fulfilment at a single location also allowsmaximumeconomies of scale andmaximumefficiencies.
Digi-Key has experienced extraordinary growth in Europe in
the first half of this year. FromJanuary through June 2010, it saw an increase in sales ofmore than 136 per cent in Europe year-over-year. The company continually strives tomeet or exceed customers’ expectations, proving its value to one customer at a time. The growth Digi-Key has experienced in Europe supports the fact that customers are recognising that Digi-Key is often the best source for their design engineering and purchasing needs; whatever they need, whenever they need it.
