Lowe Alpine takes on Komperdell in UK, ends GORE TEX relations
Lowe Alpine UK Limited has reached an agreement with Komperdell of Austria to take on the distribution of Komperdell poles in the UK market. The official appointment will be made at the OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen. Komperdell Export Manager Stefan Schmeisser said: “We have been in
discussions for a few months now and we are delighted to partner with Lowe Alpine for the UK market. Komperdell is a market leader in over 80 countries around the world and is the world’s premier manufacturer of high performance ski and trekking poles. Until now we have had a gap in our distribution in the UK and have waited some time to find the right quality of partner. We are delighted to have found Lowe Alpine.” Elsewhere, Lowe Alpine has decided to end its licence agreement with
GORE-TEX with effect from Summer 2011 in order to concentrate on its own Triplepoint shell developments. Lowe Alpine has always had a strong reputation for setting its own
direction in fabric technologies and wishes to invest in its own clothing developments for the future. Lowe Alpine says it has a clear plan for the next 3-5 years and intends to develop its future apparel centred on its own Triplepoint, Aleutian, Stormweave, Desertweave and Dryflo brands, as well as partnering with a limited number of key brands such as Polartec. Lowe Alpine’s David Udberg said: "As far as shell garments are
concerned, we will concentrate exclusively on our own Triplepoint brand going forward. We would really like to thank everyone at Gore for being excellent partners to work with and we are sure they will continue to have an outstanding future. However, for Lowe Alpine the future will be about our own Triplepoint brand in shells."
Nikwax makes Sunday Times Green List
says: “Back in 1977 when I set up Nikwax I was keen to create an outdoor company with a green conscience and thanks to the dedication of all those who work with me at Nikwax we have succeeded in building a company that is valued by customers and clients for its green attitude.” Nikwax is currently in the process of
eliminating its carbon footprint both present and past using its unique offsetting scheme with the World Land Trust. Nick Brown says: “Over the years we’ve developed water-based
technologies and processes that make our products more effective and minimise their environmental impact. We have worked hard to keep our primary carbon emissions low and offset what carbon we do emit through investment in tropical forests via the World Land Trust.” To get on the Green List a company must not only deliver on environmental
performance but instill a culture within the business that ensures employees are doing their part as well.

HI-TEC awarded ISO 14001
HI-TEC has been awarded the internationally accepted ISO 14001 Certification for environmental management. ISO 14001 applies to
those environmental aspects which HI-TEC has control and over which it can be expected to have an influence, by identifying aspects of the business that impact on the environment and understand those environmental laws that are relevant to the situation. ISO 14001 is often seen as the corner stone standard of the ISO 14000 series. However, it is not only the most well known, but is the only ISO 14000 standard against which it is currently possible to be certified by an external certification authority. HI-TEC’s latest certification signifies the beginning of an extremely
important journey for the brand – small but green steps in the right direction. ISO 14001 certification is the result of sheer determination to ensure HI-TEC are not part of the problem but are striving everyday to become part of the solution in reducing our carbon footprint and preserving our beautiful planet.
Nikwax is rightly celebrating having been selected as one of The Sunday Times’ Best Green Companies for 2010 for the second year running [published 30th May 2010]. The award, which is in its third year, recognized Nikwax as one of the 60 green ‘greats’ in the country. Nick Brown, Managing Director, Nikwax,
