THE KNOWLEDGE REVEALED Tactics and tackle to get you hooked AT THE SHARP END

The proliferation of commercial pools full of decent size carp means you need hooks built for the job in hand.

It was not so many years ago that the most popular selling hook size in the UK was a small size 20 made from medium gauge wire…. how things have changed. This model of hook would not now stand up to the test on commercials.

STRONG DESIGN FOR PELLET/PARTICLES

PASTE HAIRED READY TO GO HOOKS

These types of ready tied hooks are probably the most widely used. Without a doubt you can tempt more carp on a haired set-up and you can buy them in sizes and breaking strains suitable for commercial fi shery needs. You can get them with a standard hair loop or with special hair attachments for meat, paste and pellet.

EYED STRENGTH

The use of an eyed hook was exclusively for either specimen or pleasure anglers, but no longer. Leading match anglers are using new generation strong eyed hooks tied with a knotless knot with a band on the hair. The KM-1 is one such model. It is super strong and has a beaked point that is ideal for pellet fi shing.

SOFT PELLET

If you still like to tie your own hooks then three spade end models to check out are the 63-13, 83-13 and 93-13. Middy developed this range specifi cally for commercial fi shing venues and they are Tefl on

impregnated

which increases strength

and reduces tarnishing keeping the

points sharper for longer. The 63-13 was developed for winter/fi nesse fi shing, the 83-13 for particle/meat and the 93-13 for bagging on pellets.

The 63-13 and 93-13 are also available ready tied.

SPECIFIC METHODS

Two models that have been specifi cally designed for popular commercial methods are the Splash’Em and Method Feeder rigs. They do what they say on the packet! Splash’Em rigs have been specifi cally designed for pellet up in the water fi shing and the Method Feeder rigs are short hooklengths that clip easily onto method feeder set-ups. You get full instructions for usage inside the packets.
