HANDLE IT? CAN YOU
Two vital items that you will need for fi shing commercial carp venues are a decent strong handle and quality landing net.
HANDLES
The fi rst thing to look for is whether the end thread is made from brass, look down the hole where the thread is, if you cannot see a bronze colour then the likelyhood is that it is not brass. There are many threads that are made from an alloy mix (silver in colour) and they just do not last! Secondly check the strength by pushing the tip of the handle down against the ground, if it bends very easily then it will not be of much use when landing decent size carp. Finally consider the length and style you will require. This will depend upon the venues you tend to fi sh; platform style clear swims can be easily accommodated by relatively short handles, while zones with read beds will need a longer approach. The style can be either telescopic or take-apart.
LANDING NETS
Go for at least a 22” size net, any smaller and you will be struggling to land a 3k+ (7lb) carp. Check that the net is made to fi shery approved legal standards and that the brass thread is brass rather than just of an alloy construction. The depth of the net should be such that a carp will hang down easily within reach when you place the net over your knees for unhooking. If it is too deep the fi sh will hit the ground, too shallow and fi sh will not be safely landed from the water.
Ensure you check the depth of the netting.
