that they wanted to start with a vehicle with a minimum 2.5 tonne payload – but one that wasn’t obviously in the ‘truck’ category given that the vehicle would have to perform a variety of tasks ranging from patrol vehicle (where firepower, agility, stealth and mobility are key) to fuel tanker, ambulance, troop carrier and command post (to name but a few of the - so far - nine module designs). The Daily 4x4 in its chassis-cab format is a pure COTS system – which OVIK militarises by adding extras such as front fenders, roll cage, roof bars, light protectors and of course a cab- mounted weapons system – along with the all important load changer hydraulic hook system (plus a few other extra patented ‘trade secrets’ designed to protect CAMELEON MMS commercially for OVIK). Jez, when asked about protection, said, ‘We are also working on designs to armour the front cab with a view to offering armoured variants in the near future’. Currently, the team has designed concepts for a total of nine Modular Mission Systems: • Patrol Module (PTM) • Troop Carrier Module (TCM) • Ambulance Module (AMB) • Casualty Evacuation Module (CAS) • Fuel Bowser Module (FUL) • Repair and Recovery Module (RRV) • Command Module (COM) • Logistics Module (LOG) • Expanding Box Module (EXP)
With a further module under design, the Mortar Module (MOR) Of the above, four variants have been produced against a customer requirement and are now undergoing trials and development throughout the summer.
