Network Rail receptive to new ideas
Infrarail 2010 was declared open by Ian Sexton, Director, Contracts & Procurement at Network Rail. In his address, he outlined the company’s plan to spend some £4.7 billion annually during the current Control Period 4 but added that efficiency gains of 21% were being sought, some of these through changes in supply chain relationships. He stressed the importance of strong links with the supply industry and assured his audience that Network Rail was open for business and very receptive to new products and ideas that would help it improve the reliability and performance of the system.
Representing UK suppliers at the opening of the show was
Jeremy Candfield, Director General of the Railway Industry Association, while Lord Tony Berkeley, Chairman of the Rail Freight Group, spoke on behalf of businesses providing or supporting freight services. The guests were welcomed by Stephen Brooks, Chairman of Mack Brooks Exhibitions, organisers of Infrarail and its sister event, Railtex.
