• Demonstrated by Strainstall UK Ltd
was a new rock fall monitoring system recently installed on a section of cliff face at Dawlish, on the south Devon coast, where falling rocks from 40 m sandstone cliffs pose a risk to trains travelling on the Plymouth-Exeter line. Developed in conjunction with Tony Gee and Partners, the system monitors any movement caused by rock falls disturbing netting reinforced by vertical wire ropes installed over the cliff face. Data loggers linked to an on-site computer then transmit detection of
a rock fall to Exeter signal box via broadband, enabling the signaller to determine what action is required.

This enables signallers to be trained and regularly assessed in a safe off-line manner in both normal and unsafe CCTV crossing operation. Infrarail launch for TransCom (Projects)
On the back of a successful Infrarail 2010, Paul DuGuay, Business Development Manager at Mainframe Communications said “we had a very successful show at the NEC this year, and it was an ideal platform for us to launch TransCom (Projects) Ltd, the new joint venture between Mainframe and Eurocom.” He went on “With complementary operations that have successfully worked together before, we have decided to collaborate in future to try and secure further business opportunities. We quickly identified Infrarail as the ideal medium to launch our joint venture and by taking adjacent stands, I feel we were able to maximise the impact of what we are trying to achieve.”
16 INFRARAIL 2010 SHOW REVIEW
“The Mack Brooks exhibitions are an ideal opportunity for suppliers to meet key players in the rail market, and they undoubtedly open up opportunities that possibly wouldn’t otherwise exist” Paul continued “I believe that the Infrarail and Railtex exhibitions are one of the best value forms of marketing available to companies in the UK rail industry, as an impressive volume of visitors attend, including staff of all levels and from a wide range of different organisations, in order to keep up with what’s happening. During our three days at the NEC, we were able to reinforce Mainframe and Eurocom’s presence in the market at the same time as introducing people to TransCom.”
