iLS nets product award
Winner in the Best Product Innovation at the Infrarail Awards was the Integrated Lightweight Signal
(iLS) from Dorman/Unipart Rail.
This is poised to revolutionise signal design, installation and operation through a modular approach and the use of new materials.
Designed in response to a Network Rail
requirement and in close cooperation with signal engineers, installers and train drivers, iLS employs GRP construction to form a lightweight post for mounting on a standard concrete base or screw piles. This enables the signal to be installed rapidly, without the use of lifting equipment and with no working at height, so reducing possession times. Installation is further shortened by the use of quick-action plug couplers.
The unit can be supplied with either an
‘equipment cabinet’ or a ‘trunnion’ base and with single signal or combinations according to operational needs.
CSC makes first Infrarail appearance
Making a strong impact with its first time appearance at Infrarail was technology solutions specialist CSC, bidding to raise its profile in the UK rail market. Employing some 22,000 people globally, the company has already established a formidable international record in meeting the needs of public and private train operators and the supply sector of the industry.
Here, CSC has been successfully delivering an
IT services contract for Network Rail since 2007. It also manages Transport for London’s service desk and desktop assets. In mainland Europe its impressive client list includes SNCB in Belgium, NS in the Netherlands and Veolia Verkehr in Germany. Recent projects include supporting the 2008
rollout of WiFi facilities on Thalys international high-speed services and working with Swiss Federal Railways to develop and implement its next-generation Rail Control System for train despatching. CSC generously sponsored the successful
Networking Reception which took place at the end of the first day of Infrarail. Many visitors – and fellow exhibitors – were also frequent visitors to the non-stop chocolate fondue on offer on the company’s stand.
