TOMORROW’S CLEANING MAY 10

10 Questions With Matt Anderson

Manager Director of Green Planet Solutions

Q3 Who, in any other industry do you most admire?

A friend leant me Duncan Bannatyne’s autobiography and that guy worked hard when he felt that it was his time to do so. I liked the idea that he really didn’t do much until he was in his thirties, and then, hey let’s make some money. Just shows anyone out there, there is always time to shine and start a career.

Q4 If money was no object, what car would you buy?

Each month we ask a cleaning industry professional the Tomorrow’s Cleaning 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Matt Anderson, Managing Director of Green Planet Solutions…

Q1 What was your first job?

My first full time job was as an apprentice at Esso Petroleum, I trained as an electrical engineer!

Q2 How did you get into the cleaning industry?

Well I am a building engineer by trade I was working at a site seven years ago, and met a guy who was leaving his current job to go and work for a company called Enviro-Fresh. They had the patent on a urinal product that saved the end user costs. I was interested as being an apprentice and I got the unenviable task of unblocking the urinals. I was really interested in what this product had to offer. I met the sales director, and bang I was in an industry which I didn’t understand. I worked as a consultant for three years and then the company was sold for a huge amount of money.

Probably the hardest question you can ask me, as I love cars old and new. I think something understated, expensive and quick would be the answer, just not sure what yet.

Q5 How would you improve the cleaning industry?

That’s the aim of Green Planet. We do all the hard work testing products and agreeing the deal with the manufacturers, then pass this knowledge onto the cleaning companies. I don’t think anyone expects a cleaning company to come up with constant innovation, but clients are now beginning to expect this as standard, so hopefully we are making a small difference.

Q6 What did you want to be when you were little?

Stuntman, although I think that was due to watching Lee Majors ‘The Fall Guy’.

Q7 What do you do to unwind?

Play a lot of raquet sports and some football. Time is tight and I guess my family takes most of my ‘spare time’. I have 2 boys who are relentless in making sure I spend most of my weekend playing football and Playstation, which isn’t all that bad!

Q8 If you could have a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, with one other person cooking and the other person providing the music, who would they be and why?

REGULAR

64 | TOMORROW’S CLEANING | The future of our cleaning industry

Great question; Guest number 1 would have to be Bruce Lee, I watched his films with my dad years ago. The guy was a legend and died way too young.

Music is my 2nd love so some background music by Lauren Hill; I have heard her in concert and she is literally an angel. I would imagine she would have some great stories with her time in the Fugees.

I love cooking, but not sure who I would want cooking for me. Jim Carey would be a laugh and you always need a laugh, especially with Lauren and Bruce at the table!

Q9 What, do you think, is the future of the cleaning industry?

I think the industry is changing for the better. Even in a short space of time the cleaning industry as a whole appears to be more professional which I think is has to be a good thing. One thing for sure sustainability in cleaning seems now to be a requirement, not an option.

Q10 If you weren’t in the cleaning industry which other would you choose to work in?

I can’t imagine not being in the industry. I really like the idea of going into an industry which is stagnant and not seen as glamorous, then proceed to change this for the better. Maybe government!
