Average IT salaries rise by 2% in ‘09
PERMANENT IT salaries in the UK have gone up by 2% over the last 12 months, with the average salary for an IT professional now sitting at £36,818.
Analysis of the IT jobs mar-
ket by recruitment specialist CV Screen benchmarked 50 different IT roles and monitored over 7,000 advertised positions in the UK dur- ing Q1 2010. CV Screen’s Matthew Iveson commented: “Confidence has ret- urned to the IT jobs market. In Q4 last year there was an increase in vacancies, largely caused by pent up demand from employers who had been sitting tight during the economic slowdown.” The recruitment firm also
observed a 36% increase in the number of applicants. Iveson added: “At the beginning of 2009 it was clear that candidates were understandably reluctant to change roles due to the economic climate. “Now we are seeing much
greater mobility in the market as IT professionals have the confi- dence to seek new roles that offer career prospects, and in many cases a higher salary.” Iveson noted high demand for candidates with Java and .NET skills. “There is also a large rise in the number of SEO jobs available,” added Iveson.

England stars ‘Back the Bid’
Crouch & Hurst
ENGLAND striker Peter Crouch and 1966 World Cup winner Geoff Hurst have joined forces with BT in a bid to bring the FIFA World Cup to England in 2018. The BT England 2018 ‘Back
the Bid’ campaign invites people to put their faces on the official sup- porters’ flag to mark their support; and the soccer stars launched the rally by signing their names in light on a 67ft high flag projected by laser onto Wembley Stadium. Crouch said: “This is everyone’s chance to help bring the World Cup to England. We want people to show their passion for football, get behind the England 2018 bid and be remembered for it. Show your mates you’ve backed the bid and get them all to do the same.” The photos and names will cre- ate a mosaic of thousands of images on the virtual flag bearing the 2018 bid logo, The FA’s three lions badge
and the slogan ‘England united. The world invited’. Gavin Patterson, CEO, BT
Retail, said: “We want the flag to become a symbol that shows the passion there is not just in England, but across the whole of the UK, among fans to bring football’s great- est competition back to England in 2018. Creating the flag filled with photos of people who want to be with us will help to show FIFA that we have the nationwide support to put on a superb tournament.” England 2018 Chief Exec’, Andy Anson, said: “The BT photo flag is an exciting way for fans to get behind England’s World Cup Bid. Demonstrating the passion of football fans in this country is fundamental to our bid.” Supporters can back the bid

Dickinson’s fi t for fi ght night
GRIFFIN Internet packs a punch in the comms channel and its Sales & Marketing Director, Andrew Dickinson, is also shaping to be a big hitter in a charity white collar boxing match in aid of the Arthur Rank Hospice. Over a few drinks at a channel
event last year Richard Bligh, Marketing Director at Gamma, challenged Dickinson to take part, and after a gruelling training programme he passed the fitness test and has been matched against Kevin Moreau from Acronis. The pair are due to fight in London this month. Dickinson said: “Griffin has had a fighter in this event every year since it started and I am proud to continue this tradition and raise money for a charity that does such great work for the community.

HOSTED IP Telephony should be as easy to sell as traditional calls and lines, claims Michael J Thornton, Sales and Marketing Director of Frontier Voice and Data. His bold assertion coincides with the launch of Frontier’s MyIP Hosted IP Telephony service. Thornton commented: “Frontier MyIP comes with all the features expected of hosted IP solutions, but the added value we deliver is that the service is so easy to sell, flexible and simple to use.” Frontier’s hosted IP portal allows channel partners to build a customer quote, place orders and access marketing collateral and support documentation. Thornton added: “We are well placed to drive the market with our partners, and feel we have a feature rich and versatile product.”
Time travelling dealer turns back the clock 22 years to upgrade Panasonic A series kit
DEALER Three Cherries turned back the clock more than 20 years when it won a contract to supply a Bristol holiday company with a new comms system. In 1988 Steve Berry, MD of
Himalayan Kingdoms, bought a Panasonic A Series telephone sys- tem from Richard Phillips, who at the time was owner of
Panasonic reseller Three Cherries. Twenty-two years later Berry’s
adventure travel company, now called Mountain Kingdoms, moved to new offices in Wotton-under- Edge and required DDIs and voice- mail features, which the A Series does not provide.
I discovered that Richard was still in the business it was great, like dealing with an old friend. “We did toy with other systems, but in the end there was really only one option.” Not only did the holiday firm

based at Clevedon. The company works with Nimans as a key busi- ness partner, offering a range of solutions including the Panasonic KX-TDA15. Berry commented: “The A Series has never let us down. When
buy from the same person, the new system was installed by the same engineer, John Hall. Phillips added: “The Panasonic
A Series is a robust analogue com- munication system. I cut my teeth selling them, they just do not go wrong. To be frank, if it had DDI and voicemail functionality, Steve wouldn’t be changing it for the new Panasonic KX-TDA!”
