HIGHnet triumphs in mighty Celtic clash
SCOTTISH telecoms reseller
HIGHnet has launched a once in a lifetime offer for new and existing customers following Ross County’s historic 2-0 victory over mighty SPL team Celtic in the semi-final of the Active Nation Scottish Cup on April 10th. HIGHnet’s MD Dave Siegel is Chairman of Ross County, and as shirt sponsors of the Scottish First Division team, HIGHnet is cel- ebrating the club’s success by giving away free tickets to the Cup Final in Glasgow on 15th May. All new customers will receive
two free tickets, and all existing customers who extend their con- tract for a further 12 months will also receive two free tickets. Estimates suggest 15,000 to
20,000 ‘Staggie’ supporters will make the journey to support their team in the Cup Final clash with Dundee United at Hampden Park. Siegel commented: “A good bunch of the HIGHnet team went to Glasgow for the semi-final and had a brilliant time. “This time we want as many of our customers as possible to enjoy the experience and to see Ross County beat Dundee United!” Ross County, based at Victoria
Park in Dingwall near Inverness, is Scotland’s most northerly League Club, and under Siegel’s wing it has enjoyed a phenomenal season. Siegel’s first link with the club dates back to 1983 when he returned to the Highlands to set up his own business. He grew close to the club through business relation- ships and on a personal level. In 2009 the Chairman at the time decided to focus more on his

own business, and when the Club approached Siegel, he jumped at the chance. “Having always had a passion for football, both as a player and manager, I was keen to be involved at that level with Ross County. “The business side of the club has always been stable, but at the time fans were feeling disenfran- chised from the club.” Siegel has succeeded in bring- ing the club closer to the fans. His next aim is to help Ross County to become a more efficient business machine, with an on-pitch goal of being the best. “Right from when the semi-final draw was made our mindset was fixed,” said Siegel. “We were deter- mined to win. We weren’t going along just to make up the numbers. In many ways it reflects HIGHnet’s strategy where BT are Celtic and HIGHnet are Ross County. We give the big guys respect but we know they are beatable.”
During the epic clash, Celtic set out to destroy Ross County with three midfield and three upfront, which allowed Ross County to put five players in midfield to swamp their mighty opponents. “We dic- tated the match and already had a foothold in the game by the time they realised their mistake and made changes,” recalled Siegel. “Our superiority was also with our 12th man – the fans. They out- sung the Celtic fans by a mile!” Despite having the upper hand, the match was ‘incredibly tense’, said Siegel. “It was so hard to keep calm. The tension was also helped by the pure excitement of the game,” he commented. Having beaten Hibs previously,
Siegel was certain of victory against Celtic. “There was a real belief among the team that we could achieve the win,” he revealed. “I was fed up with journalists asking me prior to the match if it was just a day out for the boys. I was never of that opinion. At the final whistle I was so proud of the players and the fans. It was an emo- tional moment and the atmosphere was amazing.” Siegel, although a Highlander, is not known for drinking, but he celebrated with a ‘wee dram’ and was nevertheless intoxicated by euphoria. Once sober of mind, he turned his attention to the final. “Football-wise, I’ll leave the strategy to our very capable man- ager, Derek Adams,” said Siegel. “From the Board’s perspective, we are focusing on getting as many ‘Staggies’ to Hampden as possible, so we’re busy sourcing and subsidis- ing coaches for the Dingwall evacu- ation. I reiterate, as Celtic and Hibs discovered in previous rounds of the Cup, we’re not there to make up the numbers!” Dingwall has a population of
just over 5,000, yet at the semi- final there were 7,000 fans. “We’re aiming for 20,000 supporters at the Final,” said Siegel.
