CAMPBELL’S SOUP

In the pot this month... Volcanic Ash Cloud

Communicating: In the wake of the recent volcano catastrophe there’s been an eruption of interest in new working practices. In 2010 to date, there have been several points that have come up in every customer meeting I’ve had. These are business continuity, disaster recovery, SIP services, flexible call handling and cloud-based services, including communications. However, last month a new topic was on everybody’s lips, ‘Who have you got stranded abroad then?’.

There’s no reason for travel problems to ground our ability to do business. With these sorts of technologies we can work from anywhere: Powerful smartphones with email and application access, laptops with 3G modems and company network connectivity,

cloud computing and cloud communicating – so who needs offices? Take videoconferencing and collaboration , who needs meetings?

Lots of organisations have nascent flexible working initiatives. If a volcanic eruption – and the potential for more – can’t make these plans take off, what will? The channel has yet another great excuse to elevate the dialogue we have with our customers and help them to be prepared, and to cope with, events like this.
