COMMS NATIONAL AWARDS

ENCOURAGE INDUSTRY OPTIMISM

SUPPLIER CATEGORIES

The Comms National Awards, to be staged on October 14th at the London Hilton on Park Lane, are set to ride a growing wave of optimism within the comms industry.

I

ncreasing revenues, growth in emerging markets and a belief that end users will boost spending on voice, data and mobile solutions over the next two years have created a rising mood of expectation among the CN Award sponsors. According to these key opinion leaders, rising sales and market stimulation reflect new optimism about a full recovery from the worst recession in decades.

Paul Templeton, General Manager at Samsung (sponsor of the Vertical Market Award category), noted: “Despite an overall market downturn in the last 18 months, we have seen a significant increase in the sales of software and growing adoption of mobile and VoIP technologies. This is a positive indication of how applications and solution-based selling are becoming increasingly important to successful resellers. The growth and focus in this area is great news for those who operate in particular vertical markets and have focused more attention to the added benefits of an application-based value proposition.”

With the economy coming out of the recession, vertical markets like Healthcare and Construction are beginning to grow again, leading to new opportunities in markets which a year ago were struggling with the financial downturn. “It’s the perfect time to capitalise on the changing economy and propose solutions that are tailored to a customer’s environment, an opportunity for a reseller to increase sales value and establish meaningful competitive differentiation,” added Templeton. “It’s time to demonstrate that software applications are no longer an afterthought but an integral part of a modern communications solution. This is the perfect opportunity to focus on vertical segments.”

According to Matt Cantwell, Devil Incarnate at Demon (sponsor of the Hosted/Managed Service Award category), 2010 will be the year Software as a Service ‘comes alive’. “Improvement in broadband speed, performance and reliability with much lower dedicated Internet price points, and Microsoft finally going the whole hog with its cloud solutions, means it is going to be now or never.”

According to Scott Elder, Sales Director at Capstan Communications (sponsor of the

Service & Supply Award category), the comms industry has seen one of the biggest periods of change over the past 18 months, and the effects are still being felt. “But there are tremendous opportunities in every corner of our economy that forward thinking dealers are capitalising upon,” he said. “We see the greatest opportunities coming from the small green shoots businesses that are looking for technology providers to streamline their operations, and medium enterprise customers that are going through a technology refresh and want a single vendor infrastructure.”

Tom Fellowes, Sales Director at Spitfire (sponsor of the Vendor Award category), is also in an upbeat mood, projecting a period of ongoing growth. He commented: “This is an extremely exciting time for the industry. All the pieces are coming together for a period of sustained growth driven by technological change such as unified communications and SIP, an improving economy and an increasing level of business investment after two years of drastic reductions in capital expenditure.”

David Plumb, Head of SME Sales at O2 (sponsor of the Mobile Solutions Award category), has also seen the first green shoots of economic recovery. “This recovery is being led by small and medium sized businesses, partners and customers alike,” he said. “It’s fantastic to be part of an event that celebrates the contribution partners are making to the UK economy, as well as recognise the passion and entrepreneurial spirit of partners.”

UC will provide a catalyst for growth for all value added resellers/dealers, says Gerry O’Keeffe, Managing Director, Micro-P (Stirrup Cup sponsor). “On the consumer front we are seeing M2M convergence in the living room. In the workplace, PBX to mobile M2M is imminent, while home working is being made more viable by the software enablers and high definition videoconferencing. While investment may be curtailed in the short-term, the evolvement of plaza learning environments will revolutionise the classroom/lecture hall over the course of the decade as 21st century learning concepts become a reality. I am confident that flexible convergent businesses will prosper and grow as the recovery strengthens.”
