Poker champ wins top prize

ONE of the world’s hottest names in poker, BPL Chairman Chris Boeree’s daughter, Liv, has won the European Poker Tour San Remo (April 15-21), scooping a €1,250,000 cash prize. Described as a rock chick with

an astrophysics degree and ‘one of the best looking poker faces in the business’, the 25-year-old European Poker Tour champion bagged one of the biggest results by a UK player with a pair of fives, a sharp instinct and a cool head for logical thinking. Boeree, only the third woman to win an EPT event, beat 1,240 contestants in the biggest ever EPT field assembled in Europe. She’s also the European Ambassador of leading online poker site Absolute Poker, and was already a celebrity figure on the international poker circuit prior to her remarkable EPT victory. Boeree signed up with Comms

Dealer for an industry event in 2008 where she gave delegates a unique insight into the UK’s fastest growing leisure pursuit. The UltimateBet pro is also

known for modelling, a real- ity TV show, and for topping the European Ladies Championships. Now, with the EPT win under her belt, Boeree is destined to become a poker superstar. Known as the ‘Iron Maiden’ due to her love of heavy metal, Boeree’s

EPT win puts her total winnings at £1.8m in just three years.

The poker megastar attributes her winning strategy, in part, to the trademark ‘Liv Stare’ which she swings into sharp focus to unsettle her opponents. Strongly competitive and acute- ly mathematical in mind, she hails from a family driven towards suc- cess. Her father, Chris Boeree, said: “She looks a million dollars. Other players must be fazed by her.” Liv added: “My degree in astro- physics helps to make me more analytical, and helps me to think logically. Poker is a numbers game after all. I can’t believe it. I’m still pinching myself that I’ve won a million pounds!”

GAMMA Telecom has been cho- sen, together with its partners Livvy’s and 3 UK, as a key pro- vider for the UK Government’s Becta Home Access scheme which aims to provide laptop computers together with mobile broadband Internet access to 270,000 eligible children and their families. The government aims to con- nect learning at school and at home, encouraging parents and carers to get more involved by providing children with computers and Internet access at home. Gamma Telecom is provid- ing a complete network service, from SIM cards, 3G dongles and the mobile broadband service, to

enable remote provisioning via its portal as well as billing and second and third line customer and techni- cal support. Rob Davis, Product Manager at

Gamma Telecom, commented: “It has been shown that having a com- puter with Internet access at home can enhance learner achievement, increase motivation and improve parental engagement, which in turn encourages children and helps them get better marks at school. “Being part of such a worth- while cause is an honour, and we are happy to be playing a role alongside our channel partner Livvy’s in helping to bridge the digital divide in Britain.”

Entanet trials FTTP/Annex M

ENTANET has become a BT trial partner for Fibre-to-the-Premises and Annex M. Entanet’s Head of Operations,

Neil Watson, said: “The Annex M trial is going well. We’re receiving encouraging feedback.” Walter Lindsay, MD of Line

UK Internet, which has been taking part in the trials with Entanet,

added: “We frequently use FTP software where the higher upload speed is particularly beneficial.” Entanet is also trialling FTTP,

which provides potential download speeds of up to 100Mbps. This programme follows the successful first stage trials in Kesgrave in 2008, where Entanet recorded one customer achieving 98Mbps.

IT AND business services company Logica has plumped for Singularity’s WLR3 solution. Judith Halkerston, MD, Energy, Utilities and Telecoms at Logica UK, said: “We look forward to going live on WLR3 and to the benefits that it will bring to our clients.” Dr. Robert McGarry, Director of Telecoms at Singularity, added: “Working with companies of this calibre augments our credibility in this space.”

Tri-Line’s resellers get 24-hr service gateway

MICRO-P’s MD, Gerry O’Keeffe, along with seven of the distributor’s finest athletes ran the Wilmslow Half Marathon to raise money for a MRI scanner for the new Manchester Childrens Hospital. After hearing about the plight of the Five Stars scanner appeal, and that Micro-P colleague Simon Foster’s niece, Maddie, was the face of the charity, the team at Micro-P galvanised into action to raise funds. O’Keeffe said: “I’m fortunate to work with a great team of people at Micro-P. The generosity and support shown by the whole business, whether they ran or donated has been incredible. We’ve now raised a total of £16,000 in the last six months alone.”

TRI-LINE’S new self-service gate- way is now open for business 24- hours a day, giving resellers full access to their account informa- tion, while enabling them to log a customer in the knowledge that the client can download and self- license any Tri-Line product sec- onds later. Mike Hill, Tri-Line’s MD, com-

mented: “We’ve put a lot of time and effort into our products and the way we deploy them. We’re happy to invest in technology to ensure the products and services

we offer are permanently available to our customers.” Using the self-service gateway, sales people can download bro- chures customised with their con- tact details. Engineers can down- load any product, install and watch it call home to self-license for a free trial. They can also raise tickets as well as track any outstanding or completed jobs. “The accounts team has access

to invoices, statements, every trans- action that they’ve ever had with Tri-Line,” added Hill.

Calculator for cable prices

INFRASTRUCTURE integrator Wesley Services has launched an online structured cabling calcula- tor designed to help when a client only needs an indicative price and may not have time to wait for a full survey. Paul James, Sales Director at

Wesley Services, stated: “Our cus- tomers find the calculator a useful tool. With the click of a button they can see a price difference between Cat5e, Cat 6, Cat 6A, etc. “Future releases will include

survey checklists, cabling guides and more options.” Page 1  |  Page 2  |  Page 3  |  Page 4  |  Page 5  |  Page 6  |  Page 7  |  Page 8  |  Page 9  |  Page 10  |  Page 11  |  Page 12  |  Page 13  |  Page 14  |  Page 15  |  Page 16  |  Page 17  |  Page 18  |  Page 19  |  Page 20  |  Page 21  |  Page 22  |  Page 23  |  Page 24  |  Page 25  |  Page 26  |  Page 27  |  Page 28  |  Page 29  |  Page 30  |  Page 31  |  Page 32  |  Page 33  |  Page 34  |  Page 35  |  Page 36  |  Page 37  |  Page 38  |  Page 39  |  Page 40  |  Page 41  |  Page 42  |  Page 43  |  Page 44  |  Page 45  |  Page 46  |  Page 47  |  Page 48  |  Page 49  |  Page 50  |  Page 51  |  Page 52  |  Page 53  |  Page 54  |  Page 55  |  Page 56
