And if you can get expert training for next to nothing, then why not seize the opportunity to avoid the skills gap? Iain MacDonald looks at what the ECA Training Fund has to offer registered members

Case study: GA Electrical Contractors, Oxford

Adam Brumby of GA Electrical Contractors in Oxfordshire is attending his second year of a two-year Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Contracting Management at Eastleigh College, which is funded at £800 per year by the ECA. GA Electrical employs 24 staff and, according to director Heather Woolard, it’s a company that is committed to training and continuous professional development (CPD) for the benefit of both the company and the employees involved. Adam says: ‘I am finding the course very interesting, in particular modules such as

marketing that you do not have any previous knowledge of before you attend the course. I feel you will always be able to use the skills learned from the course in the workplace. The course also confirms any existing understanding that you might have in the subject areas, which improves your confidence.’ In his workplace, Adam’s development is apparent: ‘I feel the course will benefit myself and GA Electrical in the future, as it has given me a greater understanding of the bigger picture to running an electrical contracting firm.’
