O
Education to play central role at Dubai show
Set to take place from April 25 to 27, this year’s DEAL (Dubai Entertainment, Amusement and Leisure) event will offer visitors an unprecedented range of educational opportunities alongside the main exhibition
rganised by International Expo Consults, the Middle East’s premier amusement industry trade show will play host to both the World Waterpark Association’s (WWA) Middle East Symposium and the new Middle East Attractions Forum, incorporating the Foundations Entertainment University (FEU). Both will take place on April 24 and 25, starting one day ahead of DEAL itself. Postponed from last year, the WWA Symposium will take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre and promises not only some useful seminar sessions but also some potentially entertaining networking sessions and visits to local attractions.
The first day kicks off with a global perspective on the waterpark industry, followed by some local trends and an overview of new attractions available on the market. Delegates will also learn how to use technology to enhance the guest experience and some useful tips for opening a waterpark. That same evening there will be a tour and dinner at the Atlantis waterpark on The Palm Jumeirah. Day two of the WWA Symposium includes sessions on marketing, leadership, communication, guest service and creating a culture of safety. After a closing Q&A panel session, there will be tours to Sega Republic at the Dubai Mall and Wild Wadi waterpark, where an optional dinner and reception will be available. Due to take place at the Novotel adjoining the World Trade Centre, the Middle East Attractions Forum follows on from the first ever DEAL seminar sessions, staged last year as a one-day fixture by Gerry Robinson of Trade Shows International. Chairing the proceedings will be Alain Baldacci, president of the Brazilian national parks association SINDEPAT. Speakers include architect Ray

ollowing hot on the heels of the 15th Annual Halloween & Attractions Show in St Louis, a further two haunted attraction get-togethers are planned in the United States, plus one in
Europe!
Now in its seventh year, HAuNTcon takes place from April 28 to May 3 at the Ramada Orlando Celebration Resort & Convention Center in Florida. Haunters from across the US are invited to attend in order to make this October the best Halloween season ever. The event delivers over 50 hours of education, trade show exhibits, tours of local attractions (including Busch Gardens and Universal Studios), movie nights and the eagerly-awaited costume ball. Celebrity appearances are promised by horror movie stars including Alex Vincent from Child’s Play, J LaRose from SAW 3 and Roni Jonah and Jason
Crowe of Dead Moon Rising.
“HAuNTcon is an opportunity for haunters to network, share tips and stories, get fresh ideas, learn new ways of doing things and check out the latest in haunting props,” explains event co-ordinator, Leonard Pickel. “If you own a haunted House or would like to find out how to get started in the haunt business, then HAuNTcon is not to be missed!” Over almost identical dates, April 29 to May 2, the National Haunters Convention takes place in Valley Forge Convention Center in Pennsylvania. Activities will include a prop dealer's room,

the Foundations Entertainment University.
“We are proud to present, for the first time ever outside the USA, a special edition of the highly acclaimed Foundations Entertainment University,” says Gerry Robinson. “This course has been running for over seven years and is regarded as being the most influential presentation for those starting or involved in the family entertainment sector. It is a ‘must attend’ event.”

The World Waterpark Association is planning a visit to Atlantis during DEAL
masquerade ball, competitions and a Friday night excursion to Horrorfest at Shady Brook Farm, with an added “lights on” tour behind- the-scenes.
After severly underestimating demand last year, organisers are adding more space to the seminar rooms. Sessions will include such varied topics as how to protect your haunted attraction from fire, scaring without the gore and a two-day dance workshop to Michael Jackson’s
Thriller!
Then, for one-day only, Europe’s only haunted attraction trade show takes place at its new home, the Magic Circle Headquarters in London, on May 6. Scarecon delegates will be able to enjoy a full programme of seminars and trade show exhibits, followed by the Screamie Awards ceremony and the European premiere of Scare Zone, a brand new Hollywood horror movie set inside a haunted attraction. An after show party will take place at Pasaje del Terror. Confirmed as keynote speaker is Lynton V Harris of Sudden Impact Entertainment, responsible for Madison Scare Gardens in New York and pioneering UK scare attractions at Madame Tussauds, Thorpe Park, Alton Towers and Warwick Castle. Park World readers can enjoy discounted Scarecon admission by registering in advance (see website below) and entering the promotional code “PW10.” See you there – if you dare!
