Great Wolf Lodge debuts Triple Twist

Great Wolf Lodge, North America’s largest chain of indoor waterparks, has unveiled a number of new waterslide attractions at its properties courtesy of ProSlide Technologies. For example, the Triple Twist at Great Wolf Lodge at Kings Island, Ohio (pictured), is one of the first of its kind in the world. A high-speed drop into a huge funnel is followed by twists, turns and two more funnels. A second version of the Triple Twist opened at Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City, Missouri, Meanwhile at Great Wolf Lodge in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains, the Double Barrel Drop is another world first, featuring a highspeed drop into a huge funnel, a 450 degree turn into a dark vortex tunnel, and then a second funnel. All three new waterslides include lighting and special effects to enhance the ride experience.

The Scorpion's Tail

Noah's Ark, Wisconsin Dells, has introduced a 10- story-tall looping waterslide, the first of its kind in the United States and also the tallest and largest in the world. The Scorpion’s Tale, by Whitewater West, features a trapdoor start followed by a 45- degree angled loop-de-loop at speeds of up to 40mph.

Noah's Ark is the America's largest outdoor waterpark featuring 70 acres of rides and slides.

Pink's at Knott's

Knott’s Berry Farm, Buena Park, California, has opened a Pink’s Hot Dogs outlet at the Marketplace adjacent to the main theme park. For over 70 years the family-owned Pink’s has had crowds lined up around the corner in Hollywood for a taste of one of its delicious chili dogs, just as guests at Knott’s regularly queue for fried chicken from Mrs Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant. Started by Paul Pink in 1939, the original Pink’s was a large-wheeled pushcart

in Los Angeles that served an over-sized hot dog in a large warm bun, with mustard, onions and thick chili for only 10 cents each. Since that time movie stars, well-known dignitaries, struggling musicians, businessman, housewives and school children have savoured Pink’s famous chili dogs. And they are available for the first time south of Los Angeles ... regrettably not for 10 cents!

says co-inventor Denise Weston. “Kids are engaged, challenged, learning and most importantly having fun.” MagiQuest opens in the County Fair area of Six Flags Great America this spring. Also new in 2010 is the Little Dipper, a historic wooden roller coaster formerly of Kiddieland Amusement and Glow in the Park Parade, a new nighttime illuminated parade with more than 60 performers from Gary Goddard Entertainment.

Kolmården SAFARI

After celebrating its best year ever in 2009, Scandinavia’s largest wildlife park is to open a first-of-a-kind attraction in time for the 2011 season. SAFARI will be an open gondola lift that brings people up close and personal with Kolmården’s many wild animals.

“Imagine being suspended in mid-air with wild animals from the four corners of the world hunting, grazing and looking back at you curiously,” describes Kolmården president Magnus Nilsson. “Heart beating and thrilling adventures are guaranteed for our guests next summer!” The new attraction represents Kolmården’s largest investment to date at SEK120 million ($16.7m/€12.4m). Featuring a track length of over 2.5km and utilising 78 eight-seater vehicles, SAFARI will provide an hourly capacity for 1,200 passengers. Each ride will last 26.5 minutes and be accompanies by a GPS- controlled MP3 audio guide system. Folding seats in the gondolas and no height difference between the floor of the gondola and the station platform will make access for disabled visitors possible.
