Fercell to Exclusively Distribute Heger’s EPS Compactors in the UK

Fercell Engineering recently signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Heger, a German manufacturer of screw compactors for lightweight foam material. Heger's compactors are specifically designed to reduce the size of expanded polystyrene foam and expanded polypropylene foam for easier storage and transportation. “Both industrial and retail sectors are being forced to review the way in which they manage packaging waste. This is being driven by government legislation, cost and an increased awareness

of climate change and the importance of recycling. Fercell are delighted to act as distributors for Heger, the company's high quality products are a valuable addition to our current range of Weima waste shredders and briquetters”, said Malcolm Fletcher, Managing Director of Fercell Engineering. Heger’s Tiger and Lion compactors are widely used to

manage foam waste in food processing plants, factories manufacturing electronics, warehouses storing white and brown goods and the supermarkets thought out the country. These compactors can efficiently recycle “Styrofoam” as the screw compactor can compress EPS/EPP foam up to 700kg/m3. Compared to a melt extrusion densifier, the auger compactor avoids thermal deterioration and the reduction of the material viscosity. Heger’s compactors have the advantage of reducing energy consumption while the machines are suitable for discontinuous operation and harmful odours are eliminated. Fercell Engineering will be demonstrating the Heger compactor at its Kent facility on the 19–23 April.

ExxonMobil Chemical’s New Resin for Durable High Clarity Films

ExxonMobil Chemical has expanded its portfolio of metallocene polyethylene (mPE) resins with the introduction of Enable mPE 35-05 grade resin for tough, stiff, high-clarity films. Enable mPE 35-05 resin provides converters and end users with significant downgauging opportunities that can lead to more sustainable flexible film opportunities, while delivering outstanding processability across a wide range of applications and extrusion equipment. Enable mPE 35-05 resin displays robust and straightforward processing on both linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) film line equipment, while exhibiting processing and shrink properties approaching LDPE, with the mechanical properties of higher alpha-olefin (HAO) resins of similar density. Enable mPE 35-05 resin delivers improved processing as a result of its lower melt temperature which promotes greater bubble stability with lower energy consumption, versus fractional melt index LLDPE. Long chain branching contributes to excellent shear thinning characteristics that can deliver higher extrusion rates. According to Dave McConville, global market development manager at ExxonMobil Chemical: “Introduced in 2008, Enable mPE resins help converters enhance their extrusion operations while providing excellent film performance. A single unique resin, Enable mPE delivers more stable operations, extends film line output, application versatility, and generates significant downgauging.” He added: “Enable mPE 35-05 resin broadens our metallocene portfolio into the medium density product space, and opens up new opportunities for converters and end users.”
