New Die System Helps Minimise Downtime

A new die system for extruding polystyrene (XPS) foam board, developed by USA-based Extrusion Dies Industries (EDI), dramatically reduces downtime for product changeovers. The gain in time will be beneficial to manufacturers who are looking to offset losses in productivity caused by switching to environmentally friendly blowing agents. The new system consists of: a forming box which is separate from the die lip and independently adjustable; an adjustable deckle that can be used to control thickness as well as width;

EDI’s vice president of sales and marketing, Dennis S Paradise: “The EDI XPS foam board die technology makes it possible to accomplish a product changeover on the fly in only 15 minutes. By comparison, a change in width or thickness with a conventional die system requires shutting down the production line for at least eight hours, followed by a two- hour start up phase in which no saleable board is produced—only scrap.”

external edge restrictors to ensure dimensional consistency; and a purge block between the extruder and the die which allows maintenance to be carried out without having to empty polymer from the extruder. According

BPI Films Launches New Website to Promote Nov8

BPI Films, a division of British Polythene Industries (BPI), has launched a new website in an attempt to promote Nov8, its new environmentally-friendly shrinkwrap film. The film is described as offering environmental benefits because it is 100% recyclable, is thinner than conventional shrinkwrap film—which means that less material is required—and can accommodate solvent-free printing processes. The latter benefit is particularly advantageous because it eliminates the emission of ozone damaging volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the production process. According to BPI Films, these benefits have been achieved while maintaining Nov8’s aesthetic quality. Indeed, photo-quality designs can be printed on the film in a high gloss finish in up to eight colours. When commenting on the launch of the new website, the marketing manager at BPI Films, Louise Aplin, said: “Nov8 is an innovative new product which offers improved environmental credentials whilst surpassing the performance of existing shrinkwrap solutions. Once people try it we’re confident they’ll be converted and [the website] www.nov8shrinkfilms.com aims to facilitate that process.”
