shareholder of the company since 2005. “Ralf Knief was essentially responsible for the disproportional growth of the company and we are convinced that the market position of H&S Anlagentechnik will be further strengthened through him”, so said the management. Alongside his sales job Mr Knief is currently focusing on developing and introducing new products to the market. A priority in this respect are recycling plants for converting PET and PU waste materials into high-purity polyol, reactors for classic manufacturing of polyester polyols and blending stations for mixing polyol with powders such as barium sulphate, melamine and calcium carbonate. For the future Mr Knief sees an increasingly vigorous demand for PU raw materials and would like to establish H&S Anlagentechnik even more strongly as a synonym for economical processing of PU raw materials.

Borealis Sponsors Professorship at Abu Dhabi University

Austria’s Borealis, a leading producer of chemicals and innovative plastics, has established a chaired professor seat at the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi to support polymer science education in the region. The seat, called the Borealis Chaired Professor, will be funded for an initial four-year period within the university’s Material Science department.

The Borealis Chaired Professor will be selected by a committee on the basis of academic and research credentials. The annual contribution from Borealis will cover manpower requirements and research costs. According to Alfred Stern, Borealis’s senior vice president for innovation and technology: “Borealis’s pledge to add value to its customers’ operations and products makes it essential to further research into plastics solutions that can deliver step change innovations to benefit the whole industry.” Mr Stern added: “The Middle East’s emerging polymer science and engineering sectors require grassroots support to recognise their potential. Through this new professorship and together with our Borouge joint venture with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) we aim to make a positive contribution towards their success.”
