Parking makes a good impression
Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and Barack Obama were all on hand at the Intercontinental Hotel, London, to congratulate winners at the annual British Parking Awards. In fact, the
presentations were the work of impressionist John Culshaw, who kept his audience of more than 500 parking
professionals entertained with a steady stream of ‘guests’ In the surprise award
of the event, the British Parking Association (BPA) was given a Lifetime Achievement award to mark its 40 years in the parking industry. Te Parking Person of the Year award went

to Mohammed Farooq, who works as a parking host for Q-Park at the Queen Mary Hospital in Birmingham. Community Award was presented to Bignold School, in Norwich, which uses the parking
fees it collects to improve its facilities and has also helped a school in Africa. On Sundays the school allows local churchgoers to use the facility for free. Te annual event is
supported by the BPA and sponsored by civil enforcement agency Equita.
Te big winner at
the event, with three trophies, was the London Borough of Hillingdon. Te west London council was named Overall Winner after being recognised for its work in launching a smart card that gives residents discounted parking and developing training for parking staff. Te Best New Car

Eagle-eyed readers will have noticed the new logo on the inside page of the magazine. This is proof that the BPA has been certified by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC),

of parking’s green credentials came with praise for the joint winners of the Environment Award. Te London borough of Islington’s popular car club scheme is credited with encouraging many residents to give up full-time car ownership, while Richmond upon Tames has introduced a scheme offering drivers discounted parking, as long as they drive cars with a low-carbon emission engine.
