BPA FOCUS SAFER PARKING SCHEME

SCHEME

GROWS

New and existing customers are still adding to the growing numbers of Safer Parking Scheme (SPS) award holders within the Midlands and south Wales areas.

Cardiff shopping area has recently benefited from two new multi-storey car parks, providing a combined 900 parking spaces. The new facilities, built by the St David’s Partnership, have been awarded the Park Mark in recognition of their customer-friendly facilities, clear signage, bright lighting and high- quality security measures.

Rushcliffe Borough Council now has 16 accredited sites, with the latest addition being Bingham Leisure Centre. Blaby Council in Leicestershire has two new sites on the scheme.

The Rivers Leisure Centre in Evesham has been added to Wychavon Council’s growing SPS portfolio.

Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) has once again been awarded the Safer Parking award in recognition of its high standards of on-site parking facilities.

The award follows the completion of a multi-million pound redevelopment to improve car parking facilities and the terminal frontage. The project included access improvements for the bus and airport shuttle, which links the airport with frequent services to Leeds, Bradford and Harrogate, alongside a new drop-off and pick-up zone for car passengers. point was relocated by the ranks to ease passenger departures.

A second phase in the £2m scheme saw a streamlined, rapid pick-up and drop-off zone, redevelopment of the short- stay car park and improved pedestrian walkways. These major improvements form the preliminary stages of the airport’s plans to invest a total £28m to provide business and leisure passengers with high-quality parking facilities. Tony Hallwood, commercial director at LBIA, said: ‘As Yorkshire’s premier airport we are delighted to have

been given the Safer Parking award once again. ‘We are constantly trying to improve the parking facilities to provide a safe and secure environment that has easy access to the terminal. We recognise the importance of leaving cars in a safe place and are proud to be part of the SPS.’ Phil Taylor, SPS development manager in the north east, said: ‘Leeds Bradford Airport has met all the standards to provide safe parking, giving customers who leave their vehicles in the car park confidence that their property will still be there upon their return.’
