Here is what our companies are doing to make going on holiday more sustainable:
Supporting local economies
Virgin Holidays contributes to the economic development of developing countries in which it operates. Currently it is the largest scheduled UK tour operator to the Caribbean - the most tourist dependent region in the world. Virgin Holidays makes it easy for customers to ‘give something back’. Every single holiday sold includes a donation to the sustainable tourism charity, The Travel Foundation, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds every year . As part of this partnership, it supports local charities with donations and encourages staff to volunteer . It supports small community
projects in the Caribbean such as agro-linkage development and raises awareness about sustainable seafood issues in the Caribbean by working with The Travel Foundation and the Marine Stewardship Council6
.
The Virgin Limited Edition properties are working hard to ensure that they have a positive economic impact on their local communities as well as creating wider reaching benefits .
At Kasbah Tamadot in Morocco 90% of employees come from the local community. Kasbah Tamadot provides staff with free English lessons and covers 80% of their medical expenses. It supports the local

Virgin Holidays is the only mainstream tour operator to automatically include a charity donation in the cost of every holiday it sells. In 2009 this raised much needed funds to support The Travel Foundation in helping people and the environment in holiday destinations worldwide.
Virgin Limited Edition includes: Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands; Ulusaba Private Game Reserve in South Africa; a hotel called Kasbah Tamadot situated in the foothills of Morocco’s Atlas Mountains; a ski chalet in Switzerland called The Lodge; Sa Terra Rotja, a villa on Mallorca’s northern coast; a luxury catamaran called Necker Belle and The Roof Gardens in London which includes a restaurant, events venue and Private Members Club.
