“I got to wear my dress twice, plus I have the most amazing pictures to look back on for many years to come!”

What was the weather and temperature like on the day?

It was sunny but cold down at the beach and the North Sea’s temperature was at least freezing!

What methods did you use to trash your dress?

I galloped bareback along the beach and as much as you try and keep Billi clean it just doesn’t happen! With all her galloping she started to get hot and sweaty which meant grease started to seep out of her coat and onto my gown like a frothy brown mess!

I then came off my horse and lead her along the beach so my dress got completely covered in sand too. I then handed the horse back to my dad and walked by myself into the sea!

How would you describe your overall ‘trash the dress’ experience?

Brilliant! An excellent experience! It was almost like a re-run of the morning of the wedding - having to be ready with hair & make up, everything to be done to a time scale, rushing out the door to be at the beach in time to meet the photographers and beat the tide!

What was the best part of your experience?

The best part was definitely galloping flat-out along the beach!

Do you think your horse enjoyed the experience?

It was her first experience of the beach, once she settled down she seemed to enjoy it. If she could speak, I’m sure she would say she enjoyed the carrots afterwards more!

Do you still have your wedding dress or did it have to get binned?

Well, in a weird way I had hoped that it would need binned! When I first got off the horse it looked like it needed the bin but when I walked into the sea - that seemed to clean the dress up quite well. The dress is now where I guess most people’s wedding dresses end up - in a cupboard at my mum and dad’s!

How did Andrew feel about the idea of you trashing your dress?

I kept it a semi secret from him. I did mention it to him a while before the wedding and he didn’t really say much so I guess he wasn’t very keen, I just never mentioned it to him again. I actually think he had forgot- ten all about it, so, on the Saturday evening after I had trashed it I said to Andrew, “Billi was good at the beach today!” The penny dropped almost immediately and he just laughed.

Any regrets?

No, none at all. I got to wear my dress twice, plus I have the most amazing pictures to look back on for many years to come!
