NEW DEVELOPMENTS 63 Don’t be left out in
the cold. Visqueen Building Products has introduced
new or upgraded
products suited to cold weather application including at least two membranes which can be torch bonded to concrete surfaces thereby eliminating the need for tape which often fails in colder temperatures. Visqueen Zedex High Bond DPC, offers superior performance in low compressive load applications as well as a low permeability to gases like methane, radon and CO2. Zedex High Bond DPC also benefits from laps which are homogenously sealed during
the torch bonding process. Click here to request literature
Qualifying for maximum credits An Ancon Wall Tie has been named as an integral component in the first Robust Detail to qualify for the maximum sound insulation credits, under the Code for Sustainable Homes. The assessed structures incorporated Staifix HRT4 wall
ties.The thin bridge across the cavity formed by the slender profile of this wall tie has a negligible effect on the acoustic (and the thermal) performance of a masonry wall, making it the ideal solution for this application. No wall tie other than the Staifix HRT4 is currently able to be used in all masonry cavity separating wall details published by Robust Details Ltd.

Porotherm, the precision clay block walling system from Wienerberger, has been chosen to be showcased as part of a masonry training course from Marlborough. Paul Donnelly, Marlborough MD, said “Porotherm offers a high performance, fast track and cost effective solution for wall construction in the modern environment. From a building point of view it has the advantages of shortening programme times, light weight units and lower labour costs.”The system is proven to enable faster laying speeds of up to 10 to 15 m2 an hour per man after training – almost five times faster than the time taken to lay traditional
masonry. Click here to request literature
Leading the way A completely new series of slim tubular lighting columns has been introduced by Thorn. Alumet comes with an opal or clear diffuser. The former takes twin 54W T5 lamps; the clear diffusers offer a three-way choice of optics: with Fresnel rings or a glass top lens to suit a 35-150W HIT-CE lamp, or multi-layered directional spotlights for added drama. The spotlights take white or coloured LEDs, with narrow or wide beams, or 35W HIR-CE 111
lamps.An external lampshield (180 degree) with arabesque or perforated mesh patterns adds
further flexibility. Click here to request literature
Partitioning creates new laboratory Troax UK Limited has supplied its double skin, steel Excalibur partitioning to create a new calibration laboratory at the New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) in
Hebburn.The solid steel Excalibur panels reach a height of 5 metres and have been installed together with a solid steel ceiling, also supplied by
Troax.The doors reach a height of 3.25 metres, providing access for both staff and large items of electrical equipment. Excalibur’s double skin steel construction was ideal for this unusual and demanding project;
the two steel skins,
which are of monobloc construction, are separated by a composite insulating infill which complies with all relevant Health and Safety legislation. Click here to request literature
A welcome for floor adhesive Tilers throughout the UK have welcomed BAL Single Part Fastflex White, rapid-setting, flexible floor adhesive & perfect for natural stone. It offers rubber-like flexibility, with water & frost resistance, from an adhesive which is ready for grouting after just five hours. Alex Underwood, BAL Brand Manager, said: “being both rapid-setting and white, it minimises the risks of discolouration of the tiles. It has obvious benefits over a two-part adhesive, including removing any need to store and transport both a sack of powder and a bottle of liquid. Being offered in 5kg and 12.5kg sacks, fixers also have an ideal choice of sizes for differing jobs.”
