Landscape Amenity PRODUCT UPDATE

www.landscapeandamenity.com Suzuki has added power steering to selected models in its ATV

range, and a number of prospective customers were given the opportunity to test these models at a recent open day in Wales.Included in the ATVs available to test ride were the latest range- topping KingQuad 750XP and 500XP models, which could be compared with their non-power steering equivalents in order to highlight the benefits of the new models.

Kymco has applied its experience into developing the KYMCO

UXV500, the company’s first side-by-side utility machine. The design of the new vehicle integrates the ‘go anywhere’ versatility of an ATV and the practicality of a modern SUV, to ensure those working or operating in an agricultural, forestry or grounds care environment, can make the most of the vehicles rugged capabilities. Competitively priced at £6608 + vat, the all new UXV500 features

a 4-stroke single cylinder liquid cooled engine mated to an automatic (CVT) transmission system, delivering 36 bhp at 6500rpm. Importantly, the multi-purpose machine transfers its power to the ground through the CVT, using a dependable, low-maintenance shaft drive in conjunction with a front differential, which can be locked to maximise traction on adverse terrain. The UXV500 also benefits from an integrated Chassis, selectable

2wd-4wd function, an automatic high/low ratio gearbox with reverse gear, 4-wheel independent long travel suspension (190mm) with torque balance rods and efficient disc brakes to provide ample stopping power. In addition, the engine has been centrally mounted for balance and stability, and the low-pressure tyres with 12” rims will also assist with traction and heavy loading.

Gators over acres A range of five diesel engined Gators are used by course manager Grillo Click here to request literature One customer commented on his experience of the power steering

model, "I've ridden ATVs for 20 years and my first time with the power steering was good. It was smooth and better to ride over the rough and hilly ground, it made turning easier in 4wd and took the bite out of the front end." The Welsh hill farm venue provided a number of challenging riding areas including steep hills, a water splash and open fields. The course was designed to highlight rider benefits including a more upright riding position for improved comfort, lighter low speed steering for reduced rider fatigue and elimination of bump-steer for more control at higher speeds. Polaris has also added electronic power steering to Sportsman 550

and 850 ATVs, which adjusts to travel speed and offers increased driving comfort.

Redwings Horse Sanctuary, has recently chosen Massey Ferguson diesel utility vehicles to replace their existing side by sides. Two UTVs have been supplied by Massey Dealers, for the Redwings headquarters at Hapton Hall, Norfolk and the Caldicott Visitor Centre in Great Yarmouth. The 14.4 cu. ft capacity of the UTVs load carrier is ideal for stacking buckets of feed for the feed runs and for muck picking in the smaller paddocks. Lyn Fielder, Head of Equine Operations at Redwings comments, “Our track ways are in constant use and the UTVs are robust enough to cope with the many potholes. A large proportion of the tasks that we carry out require two people, both from a physical point of view and health and safety reasons, so the side by side seating the UTV provides is essential.”

Geoff Smith and his greenkeeping staff at Abridge Golf & Country Club. They run two Pro Gators, one equipped with a John Deere HD200 turf sprayer and the other with a TyCrop ProPass top dresser, plus two TH 6x4 Gators and an HPX 4x4 Gator with cage protection, for use with a ball collector on the driving range. The cage is made by Howard Marshall Engineering, who manufacture a number of attachments and specially made items for the Gator range and other John Deere machines from their base at Papplewick in Nottinghamshire. “At over 230 acres, this is a very big site, so we couldn’t do without

our utility vehicles,” says Geoff. “We use the 6x4s as general work vehicles for absolutely everything, including carrying our John Deere walk-behind greens mowers, divoting, changing holes and bunker work – they’re ideal for getting up and down slopes and in and out of bunkers
