12 FENCING & SECURITY
News Update
* Proctor Fencing has launched an extensive range of Fencing
materials with an informative new website at
wwwfencingmaterials.co.uk specifically targeting contractors, builders and property maintenance contractors. Main catagories include concrete fence posts, steel fence posts, mesh rolls (chainlink & weldmesh) mesh panel fencing, pallicade fencing, barbed and razor wire, fittings, gates and railings. Proctor also has tools and personal protective equipment.
* Industry research shows Fencing market conditions
could be improving following the low points of 2008/9. However the research findings do point to more job losses within the sector mainly as result of mergers and consolidation.
* While the continued use of Creosote as a preservative is
coming under increasing pressures particularly from EU member states current estimates put coverage usage at around 1 million cubic metres. Creosoted wood is said to offer significant benefits with regard to workability, long service life and mechanical properties.
* Lantra Awards has been re- approved by the Office of the
Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) following an application for supplementary recognition to operate within the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)
Tackling the predator problem
With the deer population at its highest level for over 2000 years and badgers numbers increasing daily thanks to their protection status, damage to vegetation, shrubs and grassland has become a real issue. Landowners,
parks and
residential gardens are all looking at ways to protect their areas. McVeigh Parker say their
XFENCE gives real value for money offering a strength and durability that is second to none. Due to the combination of the elasticity of XFENCE, its tough X Knot and overall strength, installation costs and time are reduced without any compromise on efficiency. XFENCE provides a suitable
Gripple Fencers meet the challenge
Not content with donating £1,500 and fencing materials in support of a local conservation project,
an
intrepid team from the Sheffield-based manufacturer, Gripple put their backs into making it happen! Over a wet week, the team
erected more that 150 metres of fencing,
employing the unique Gripple wire joiner, and
fence which will act as an effective barrier against deer and/or badgers. Its X Knot joint has been proven to be 24% stronger than any other wire joint and the Xtralife zinc coating will last three to four times longer than heavily galvanised wire.
McVeigh Parker is a leading
UK stockist and supplier of XFENCE developed in New Zealand. This wire netting has been specifically designed to withstand the aggressive nature of badgers and the high impact of deer. All the raw material used in XFENCE is manufactured from primary metals only, providing you with a guaranteed even strength every time.
The
elasticity of the wire will be able to take years of pressure without any deterioration to the fence line, meaning the fence over time will still look as good as the day it was erected. McVeigh Parker are also able to offer a new steel post system
in heavily galvanised steel which requires little machinery for installation, very strong yet light enough to transport over all terrains, less ground disturbance and can be used for temporary or permanent installations, more details on request.
Whether you are suffering
damage from Munjac, fallow, Sika, roe or wish to contain Red deer, keep out badgers, then they have an XFENCE suitable for the job.

planted some 400 young hedgerow trees on the Carr House Meadows Nature Reserve, which is one of Sheffield Wildlife Trust's projects. John Paul Ward, River Don manager at Sheffield Wildlife Trust, said: "We are extremely grateful to Gripple for their contribution towards this project, particularly for their 'people power', which will make the meadows more welcoming to wildlife and bring people closer to nature." Five hundred pounds of the cash donation came from Gripple's charity committee which supported almost 50 different charities during 2009.
