Best places to swim/Bike/run
• Swim
Westside YMCA on 63rd Street between Columbus and Central Park,
Asphalt Green on 1st Avenue near 93rd. Asphalt Green’s indoor pool is
one of New York City’s only 50-meter pools (except for Riverbank) and
when you need to do a long swim, it seems less painful in a 50-meter
pool.
• Bike
Many triathletes bike along 9W from the George Washington Bridge to
Nyack, Piermont and even the Apple Orchards. The route includes some
challenging clips (State Line Hill) as well as some areas where you can
accelerate. Plenty of cyclists flock to Central Park and Prospect Park in
Brooklyn, but be ready to do plenty of loops to hit your mileage goal for
the day.
• Run
Central Park is one of the best options as there is a natural 6-mile loop
full of hills, false flats and straight roads. There is also a bridle path
snaking around the park if you want some variety. Another great option
is the West Side Path, which runs from Lower Manhattan up to 125th
Street and beyond. Finally, Prospect Park is an option for a challenging
run.
