FASTBREAK - BLUE DEVIL UPDATE
The Blue Devils opened a 7-0 December with a victory in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge dominat-
ing the Iowa Hawkeyes 71-47. Duke, notorious for their aggressive defense, forced the Hawkeyes into 28
turnovers on the night. Carrying momentum into a match-up with another Big Ten opponent, Michigan,
Duke used a 2nd half surge to pull away for a 60-45 victory. Four Blue Devils achieved double-digits in
the scoring column against the Wolverines. In front of an impressive Cameron crowd of 7,000, Christmas
came early as Karima Christmas reached a new career high and the Blue Devils beat the No. 4 Stanford
Cardinal in an exciting finish, 56-52. The Blue Devils then headed out to the West Coast, edging out Pac-10
foe USC 97-89 in overtime and closing the trip with an 86-41 route of Sienna. Bringing in the New Year at
Providence, Duke celebrated with a 66-49 victory. In their first home game of 2009, Duke entertained the
Cameron faithful with an impressive defensive display forcing 29 turnovers while beating Temple 87-52.

#5 Duke 56
“There is nobody who has more confidence in Karima than her teammates,
and when that’s the case you know you have a good foundation beneath you.
#4 Stanford 52
Tonight was unreal.”
#5 Duke 97 Coach P on the team effort:
USC 89
“There were so many people who stepped up. We played really tough
basketball in a very tough environment. I liked our poise and resilience.”
Chante on team development:
#5 Duke
“Everyone is growing up. No one is a freshman anymore and we have a lot
87
of leaders on this team and I feel like a lot of people contributed tonight and
Temple 52
stepped up coming off the bench. We just had a lot of people showing
leadership out there, not as many turnovers and just executing.”
