CANNABIS LINKED TO HEAD/NECK CANCER A study published in JAMA Otolaryngology — Head & Neck Surgery found that adults with cannabis dependence are up to five times more likely to develop head and neck cancers. The analysis of 20 years of data that included more than 90 million men and women determined that the higher rates of all types of head and neck cancers were independent of other factors, such as age, gender, and ethnicity. “Cannabis use produces cancers mainly of the head and neck,” said Russell Blaylock, M.D., board-certified neurosurgeon and author of The Blaylock Wellness Report newsletter. Blaylock theorizes that the primary reason for the increased risk is the damaging

effects of the smoke, which is usually held longer than when smoking tobacco.

TONGUE COLOR PREDICTS DISEASES Saying “aah” may help diagnose what ails you. Aus- tralian and Iraqi researchers have developed a computer algorithm that can predict diseases with 98% accuracy by analyzing the color of the tongue. For the study, cam- eras placed about 8 inches from patients captured their tongue color, and the imaging system predicted their health condition in real time. “The color, shape, and thickness of the tongue can reveal a litany of health conditions,” said the University of South Australia’s Ali Al-Naji, Ph.D. “Typically, peo-

An animal study conducted at the University of Massachusetts Amherst found that older female mice who ate a high- fat diet and received a daily 30-minute heat treatment for 12 weeks gained less weight and improved their use of insulin, compared to the mice fed the same diet but not treated with heat. “Heat therapy could be a practical option for those with increased abdominal fat and a higher risk of metabolic diseases triggered by meno- pausal hormonal changes,” said doctoral candidate Rong Fan.

Healthy Aging Made Easier

Four medical doctors develop antioxidant-loaded multivitamin formula for healthy aging

arvard scientists reviewed decades of vitamin research, and reported that most adults fail to get enough vita- mins by diet alone. This is particularly true for those over

50, who have more trouble absorbing nutrients. Diets of older adults are also commonly defi cient in key vitamins, especially antioxidants.

An Inexpensive Nutrition Insurance Policy

Harvard researchers recommended: “Ev- ery adult should take a multivitamin daily as a safe and inexpensive way to optimize health.” The Harvard School of Public Health website counsels: “A daily multi-
